My friends have every sympathy
For the lack of romance in my life
but promise everything will be fine
All I have to do if I want to find a wife
is use their favourite chat up lines .
Are you a parking ticket '' cos '' fine is written all over you
Seemed a little corny to me
How do you like your eggs in the morning
gave me a warning
Those chat up lines are not all they should be .
Do you have a map '' cos '' I am lost in your eyes
Almost made me giggle till I cried
If you were a burger you'd be a Mcgorgeous
was said the day that romance died .
I'm gonna have my teeth pulled to make more room for your tongue
Or kiss me so I know what an angel kisses like
Do you believe in execution ''cos '' I'm really well hung
Would have me riding home on my bike .
So I thanked my mates for their best wishes
and their girlfriends smothered me in kisses
as I said I was putting those ideas on the shelf
I'll have more success with the misses
and perhaps get lots more kisses
If I am prepared to be myself.
J ust in case you're unaware
E verything He gives us is because He cares
S o freely He gave His son for our sin
U nselfishly loving us from beginning to end
S o many have come to know Him as Father and friend
S aved by His mercy and grace
A ll He wants is for us to seek His face
V ines stretch forth and fruits appear
E veryone who hears should have a listening ear
S tay in God's Word and He'll keep you from fear
A poet's contest with a twist
Use the words in this long list
Author's puzzle - mental schism
Solved by quoting pearls of wisdom
Writing verse with rough iambi
Valentines the namby-pamby
Sugar cane is often bitter
Sweet instead banana fritter
Shellfish debt is right to fear
Mollusc IOUs are dear
In winter cess or gong will ice
Come the spring it won't smell nice
Those who talk soliloquies
Centralistic - ill at ease
Mostly truth - a bit of flam
Buoyant spirits just a scam
Olive stuffed with pepper sweet
Pimola - shun a tasty treat
Broken clock might go tic tac
Til ending life upon the scrap
Peer at life - myopic squint
Essence lost - the meerest hint
I've met the task - I've got all ten
By breaking words up now and then
Spelling strange and meaning hookie
Least they could be fortune cookies
Entry for "ten word challenge - 2" contest
Uses words (sort of): AMBIVALENT, ARCANE, BITTERSWEET, LUSCIOUS, INTERCESSOR, QUIESCENT, FLAMBOYANT, IMMOLATION, TACTILE, QUINTESSENCE
(In late June, 1914, Austria declared war
on Serbia, thus initiating the First World War.
In Paris, this was ignored, because Henriette
Callaux had been found Not Guilty. De
minimis non curat lex = "the law does not
extend to trivialities". Proust, in his novels,
wrote about his romantic affairs, but because
he was gay, had to feminise names, like
"Albertine". Boule de suif = ball of suet, the
French version, 100 years ago, of "babe".
7. Conclusion
And still, we label you the weaker sex!
Vienna drew the sabre on the Serbs?
Yes, but - de minimis non curat lex!
The crowds which crammed along Parisian kerbs
were there to cheer Acquitted Henriette.
She'd sobbed and swooned, and mooned and spooned, and won!
Her husband never placed a safer bet:
they even let her keep her little gun!
So, gentlemen, those terms diminutive,
those "ines" and "ettes" -- just leave them all to Proust.
Beware her underwear, where waits a chiv!
The merry widow's black, and home to roost!
When passion immolates you in its flames,
whenever pulses race, and blood runs high,
and (worse still!) you resort to nookie names --
my little chickadee, my cutie pie,
ma boule de suif, my little bit of fluff -
beware what's lurking in a woman's ****!
“Agora é tarde Ines é mor”
Ire, Revenge clouded Pedro‘s heart.
Death separated the lovers apart.
Seeking a punishment to fit the crime,
Heart pulled from one’s chest,
Heart pulled from one’s back.
Those who wronged him were mourned in shrouds.
Love was a weakness in the realm.
Souls died, lovers whelmed.
Ines de Castro’s tears stained the river.
Thy tragedy crowned dead queen shall live forever.
B argains, bargains, bargains!
L ines of people around the store,
A nticipating treasures,
C osting less than ever before.
K eeping eyes wide open,
F or extra friendly deals.
R acing, reaching, grabbing,
I nclined to grunt and squeal.
D ignity takes a back seat,
A s agressive shoppers push,
Y ielding dispositions not so sweet.
