Best Here Today Gone Tomorrow Poems
I knew one day
you'd spread your wings
you'd take my heart
when you cut
our strings
through the years
Id daydream alot,
worried about that day
then I'd think to myself
"She's a well rounded girl
with brains to boot,
eh she'll be okay"
Now it's all changed
as that day is here
the anxiety of a loss
is what i fear
With tears in our eyes
you tell me "don't cry,
I've groomed my feathers
so I'll fly really
high
As i watch her wings
spread far and wide
the metaphoric example
of a future so bright
I swallow the knot
that is in my throat
as i watch her take off
and i feel life
broke
True to you
my beautiful daughter
my smile came back
within the hour
I picked up the phone
to hear your voice
as you go on and on
with your girlie stories
These silly moments
i've come to cherrish
no matter your age
you will always be
mom's baby
Henrietta Hippo
where on earth did you go?
the New Zoo Review
started out as new
but the years flew by fast
and nothing seems to last
Here today gone tomorrow
All that love she simply borrowed
Took everything I ever had
Left me crying made me sad
Never bothered to say goodbye
Didn’t see the tears in my eyes
Just walked right out on a hot July
In New York City I wondered why
She took away the love I knew
Didn’t care if my heart was bruised
Found somebody else to kiss and love
She said she had her mind made up
Here today gone tomorrow
All that love she simply borrowed
She took everything that I ever had
Left me crying made me sad
Well I don’t expect her back again
Not now she’s found another friend
Things between us can’t get worse
I need some time to heal the hurt
Here today gone tomorrow
All that love she simply borrowed
She took everything that I ever had
Left me crying made me sad

Someone once gave me advice
That same person cared
More than I realized at the time
Now forever a memory
One slowly fading with time
Know that I love you
And miss you everyday
My lifeline to the world.
A constant unwavering presence
Never will I find again
One so honest and open
The truth never hurt
I miss everything that was
What can never be again
Reality in all it's glory
A fading memory of wisdom
Strength and courage unmeasurable
Never truly reaching own potential
Always seeing in others
What not everyone could see
It's taken years for me to realize
Only after you've been gone
Do I see what I should have
That I have more to offer now
And there for one brief moment
Was our light
Shining strong
And shining bright
Bringing us new signs of hope
With courage
And the gift to cope
He left us when he's needed most
Returning to the Blessed Host
With caring grace
And love of man
This leader came
Did all he can
All must remember what he gave
His dreams for us
Are what we save
If i died today would you remember me tomorrow?
Would your heart be left in constant sorrow?
Would you cry for me as you wore that black gown?
Would your smile turn upside down?
Would you pray for me to be in a better place?
Would you put my ashes in vase?
Or would you spread them gently out to sea?
For this is where id want to be.
Will you remember the good times we shared?
Or will you remember the time that weren't fair?
Just remember ill always be around,
Ill even be your shadow on the ground.
Life is to short life is not fair,
But in the end we'll always make a great pair.
HERE TODAY GONE TOMORROW
Here today gone tomorrow
Thanksgiving and Christmas Day
We forget I hate to say
Colors – uplifting music
The great festival of friends
Hosannas joy without end
Chapel bells on Christmas Eve
Yearly drive to see the lights
Giant tree oh what a sight!
Amazing special passions
Filled with hope and constancy
Resolutions don’t you see
Quite a metamorphosis
Amnesia like a shroud
Head in light above gray clouds
Five great weeks of fantasy
A magic spell to be sure
Past new year though all’s a blur
Bloody Earth with many wars
World full of empty feelings
D.C. lies shady dealings
Lest we forget peaceful days
The season’s magic feeling
I’ve a wish am appealing
Caught up in reality -
Near forgot those hours of bliss -
Take the time to reminisce
For
three
long years
a lonely
mayfly incubates-
but has just six hours to procreate.
This sonnet was inspired while celebrating my daughter’s birthday. Everyone was eating
cake except me. I hardly ever eat sweets. “A moment on the lips, forever on the hips”.
Anyway, while they were enjoying the moment, I began to muse. Later that evening I
composed this:
My daughter is older by a year today.
She is thirty-seven. I wonder where
The time has gone It seems to melt away.
It’s like an imperceptible glacier
Receding slowly, leaving once unseen
Destruction bare, exposed to view, behind.
I see what time has etched on me between
A youth of yesteryear and current time.
The mirror reflects wrinkled lines and spots.
And not to mention, but I will! The gray.
And like the ice, receding hair, a lot
Is lost. My exploratory survey?
It can be said, expressed this way: Ahem!
I once had youth and now it’s gone, Amen.
Here today, gone tomorrow
Too often comes as a surprise
From the joy to the sorrow
All can happen overnight
What you have that you hold onto
Often can slip out of hand
Be it old or be it brand new
Be it life or be it death
Here today, gone tomorrow
Where have you placed all your eggs
Do you beg, steal, or borrow
Where on earth have you made your bed
Are your possessions of any value
Do you treasure all you have
What would happen if they left you
Would you think there's nothing left
Here today, gone tomorrow
Would that mark the end of it
Does the thought leave you hollow
Or would you make the best of it
Pick yourself up by the boot straps
Do your best to carry on
You're not the first nor the last
When here today, gone tomorrow comes along
You left me holding tears
Should have seen the signs
Thought the bags were heavy
For a weekend break
You hugged and said you'd see me soon
Then warmly waved goodbye
You left me holding tears
