Best Flying Colours Poems

Face To Face With a Nameless Dame

Hold your fire
Let your sharp tongue retire
When to the fore sneaks your ire

Increasing carelessness danger
Thinking in your mind you’re an indomitable ranger
Although in your own skin you turn into a total stranger

Body somehow cut off from your mind
With a baggage of axes to grind
When moderation and restraint remind you to find

Better avenues conflicts to handle
As your roving hand to a pristine place strays to fondle
In the way you assuage your sorrow bundle

Hoping to progress, succeeding in failure
As your successes grow increasingly fewer
Cos your ire and short fuse couldn’t find a cure

To the uncertainty and unpredictability you nurture
In times of stress. To the fore comes a procrastination culture
You extrapolate into your unreachable future

Where no spouse tolerates you
Cos normal life you have no clue
Neither can you fasten happiness with gregarious glue

Much as you dare to dream
You’d crossed over with flying colours a fast moving stream
When in fear of the unknown you did scream

And to your rescue came a dame
Svelte, graceful who declined to you give both her name and game
Fearing your bad reputation would sully her with both blame and shame.

Premium Member Veggies, Veggies, Veggies

Veggies, veggies, I sure love my veggies

Just about any that you can name

A salad a day for more than two years now

You'd think I would tire of 'em but hey, not me

Still the best meal of the day

With my favourite Poppy Seed Dressing

What could be better

A meal fit for a king, hmmm maybe not

A kings feast is comprised of raw meat

With beautiful slave girls standing by

Waiting to grant me my every wish

Hmmm! That sure sounds pretty good to me

How does one become king

Is there some exam you have to pass

I'm a pretty smart cookie

Should pass it with flying colours

Would like a crown of solid gold

Bedazzled with rubies and sapphires

An ermine cloak and dazzling rings on every finger!

Am I overdoing it, you think

This all started out talking about veggies

Did you noticed at what point it started down a different path

Oh well back to boring old veggies

Somehow they've lost their appeal

Gotta leave you now

Going to take than exam to hopefully become king

Veggies, veggies, veggies!

Butterfly In My Hand

Janmashtami, is an annual celebration of the birth of the Hindu deity Krisna, the eighth avatar of Vishnu. A baby boy took birth on the same day, let's see what happens ...

Butterfly in my hand
( Avant-garde Haibun)

A star fell apart
from the rain bathed monsoon sky -
Janmashtami night

I was born with a butterfly in my hand. A few croaking frogs and chirping crickets were the witnesses. My parents named me after the Lord - "Krishna". I used to play with the flying colours of rainbow. A pair of dreamy eyes was my sole belonging. Now, my little angelic hands break coals, wash dishes and your cars, serve platters. My world is restricted to the periphery of a Dhaba.

Your hypocrisy -
enslaved your God and your shame
renamed me " Chhotu"

Don't need your pity;
Give me back my lost childhood
and the butterfly ...

Dhaba : Roadside open restaurant / eatery.
Chhotu : little boy

For contest : My favourite forms - Haibun or Sonnet

Flying Colours

I saw true colors

In the rainbow's spread spectrum

Beautiful honors.

This guy prides himself in speaking gibberish
Multilingual, proud along with my limericks
Went to Benny Hill school
For underdeveloped fools
Passed with flying colours, ended up the class validick

Maths

Algebra and Geometry are the two branches of maths
Which makes us think and we are in a fuss!
It is the best subject of education
For achieving good marks we need
dedication,determination and devotion
Algebra is well known for its equation,
Geometry for its proofs and theorems.
If we practise these subjects regularly
And master these coming out with flying colours
We will be someone like Aryabhatta or Pythagoras.

Walking My Tiger Home

Walking my tiger home,
Stuffed with latex foam,
Orange red and tawny yellow,
To sleep with me and share my pillow,
The golden coat so light fawn,
The best gift since I was ever born,
So many kisses and so many cries,
To pick it from the shop it lies,
I can hide from my angry mother,
And also scare my little brother,
To gain my friends jealous,
My hearts bumps with flying colours,
Not only in Discovery not only in Animal planet,
Now also in my little hamlet,
I have a companion to roam,
Walking my tiger home.

Premium Member Life Is a Turkey Shoot

Life is a turkey shoot at the best of times
Nothing's handed to you on a silver platter
Gotta get out there and make life happen
Contentment is basically all that matters

If you can honestly say you've lived your life
With the very utmost caring and honesty
Then you've come through with flying colours
You've lived your own exclusive odyssey

Can't ask for more, you're living life's dream
Being respectful of your fellow man
You can't go wrong it's the way it should be
You're living by nature's master plan

There'll still be days when you'll sit and wonder
What's the purpose of us guys being here
Is there some great plan that I'm not aware of
You betcha and we all have nothing to fear

Teacher and Student Tight Ties

Teachers and students bond
In the classroom, in the lecture room
To ensure the teaching and learning process doesn’t abscond
As teachers their students’ future groom

In bonds that over time tie tighter
As the loco parentis role teachers pursue
To mould character, attitude, knowledge and skill in better and vaster
Quality, quantity and sanctity that ensue

When ignorance hitherto entrenched
Dies and lies in a cognitive intensive care unit
While cultures of best practice and best performance grow enmeshed
In society whose prosperity teachers and students knit

To man vital sectors of national economies
Although teachers sentimentally suffer when upon course completion students depart
After scaling with flying colours cognitive, affective and psycho motor taxonomies
When from teachers’ company beloved students part.

Passed

Congratulations you’ve done it!
And with flying colours too.
But then we knew you could do it
We had every faith in you.
Although your nerves were jangling
And your tummy wouldn’t settle,
We knew once you took it to task
You’d conquer that bit of metal.
Emergency stop,turn in the road,
Highway Code a doddle.
And you should be proud of yourself
The examiner didn’t mollycoddle.
Now at last you’re up there
With the favoured rest.
You can throw away the L plates
Now you’ve PASSED your test.....
But just a word of caution;
Before you set off into the blue,
Remember the road’s not a race track
And we’re fond of every bit of you.—
Well now you’ve got the green light,
It’s go ahead,action stations!
Grab the wheel, use your head and your heart,
And once again DRIVER congratulations.

I wrote this for a friend who passed their test.

Doddle- very easy
Mollycoddle- be gentle with

The Caterpillar

In the beginning was darkness, like in any other shell
Then a crack and out came the typical caterpillar
Into a jungle with so many like him and unlike him
Moths, caterpillars, dragon flies and other killers
The journey had begun, to grow, eat and grow
He never knew he was the one, but he knew he wasn’t slow

Who was to mind the sloppy caterpillar?
When all he could do was grow, eat and grow
Who was to look beyond his youth regalia?
When all his peers had theirs ripe for show
Little did he know he’d shed it all away
But until then he had nowhere to go
All he could do was roam his tree home
All he could do was grow, eat and grow

The world looked at him as the butterflies’ brother
Telling him to fly despite having no wings
He tried to strut his dull green colours
He sought solace in his deadly sting
For long he longed to soar in the sky
To be the envy of all and sundry
To don rainbow colours like elder butterflies
After such thoughts he was always hungry
Lord knows the world was moving too slow
And all he could do was grow eat and grow

So ate he did and big he grew
Then into his cocoon he obliviously stumbled
His shell was cracking and little could he do
Except accept who he was and be humble
As he emerged, his world hadn’t changed
But what he saw was the same thing different
As did the world when it set its eyes on him
The sluggy, the slow worm was now flying colours

In his presence, his brothers were moths
A background in a Da Vinci masterpiece
Marvel and wonder in their thoughts
They wondered if this was who their brother is

High he soared, higher than ever
For the world to see him for he was now visible
It thought he’d been who he was since forever
It knelt at his feet and put him on a pedestal
Higher he soared and colder he grew
And harder it proved for him to breathe
That’s when he knew exactly where to go
Where he could grow, eat and grow

He had grown in this world as a caterpillar
And this world had made him callous
Now he had flown in this world as a butterfly
And it named him flying colours
So the butterfly it chose to butter
And the worm it chose to shun
Is it ignorant or is it too blind to see
That the worm and wonder are one?

Your Precious Presence

In the walls of brain
have numerous poetic frames.

Frames which has filled
with the flying colours of aim.

An aim to look at the eyes of Lord
in which we all are same.

If you tend to blame others for the typical situations
it's a sense of shame.

Do combat anyhow
in dense darkness with candle flame.

Don't lay limit your search
till page numbers & author's name.

Don't spoil your time
in nuisance.

'Words of wisdom'
is your real essence.

Don't throw the dice
for mere number game.

Remember it -
Life is a chess game.

Do claim for your rights,
responsibilities, duties & name.

After All, your presence in this mortal world
should be for 'Hall of fame'.____Durgesh Verma

With Jam On It

With jam on it
Uncle Aubrey stole my trousers and ran off down the lane
7o’clock this Monday morning was last seen boarding a train
Cousin Tracey dropped her wedding ring right down a drain
9o’clock this Monday morning she cried it’s the second time again
Granddad Ernest hammered a nail into his hand and oh what horrid pain
10o’clock on Monday morning in hospital trying to explain
Next door neighbour saw pigeons eating bread that was stale in the main
11o’clock on Monday morning by his kitchen window content to know that they came
Uncle Aubrey got an interview for a bakers making brown bread and also white at a strain
He passed with flying colours and they said he could start Wednesday morning on which day it rained
Cousin Tracey found her wedding ring the very same day lying at the bottom outside covered in dirt and grain
Granddad Ernest had an operation on Wednesday which took the nail out of his bone but left a small whole and polo he had named
Saturday morning at 11o’clock the next door neighbour got a knock on his door and it was Aubrey with some left over bread that hadn’t been sold he proclaimed
And the rest is just a mystery to me because I never got my pants back but I always had fresh bread with jam on so I never complained

Going To School In Heaven

I would be taught many things, what love brings,
but difficult to fly without a pair of wings,
I was instructed in compassion and forgiveness,
to cherish, value, adore and gently caress.

They said that I would go to the stars and other places,
no one knew that an angel's heart races;
my friends Gabriel and Michael were so clever,
I completed my 'heavenwork' with their endeavour.

Anne and Catherine said: 'Be careful what you fly in,
not too loose clothing, in case you get in a flap,
when you've settled, you can give your own instruction,
then deliver your pearls of wisdom ad infinitum.'

I graduated with flying colours - blue, white and gold,
so that I couldn't be seen in the sunset, I was told.

Premium Member Painful Hibernation

This is my cocoon, my bed, and I am sleepy
For no one will I leave this warm place, I hibernate
With my slender fingers, with the last bit of my strength
I build this final place

I wrap my arms around my head, they are so painful
My knees around themselves, so thin and bone alone
I rest my head inside my arms, and push it all away
Outside this final place

I am no more, today I finally stop being
I never asked to have this strange body that I loathe
Those ever crying thoughts that haunt inside my brain
Let me my final place

***

If this is cease to be, how come the flying colours?
The strange sensations while I suddenly can move?
Is this crawling out of painful hibernation
Leaving life of darkness then?
