As we rode through a fog, my father and I,
the car we were in, seemed to know its way home
Hands on the wheel, without eyes on the road

We were numb from the cold. No words left to say ....

We had prayed through the night in a hospital haze,
clinging to a hope, that had slipped far away
Until the end of the world came upon the new day

Arriving home in the car, unable to talk,
our hopes and our tears had nowhere to land.
If just one would escape, where would it go?
No shoulder, ...no dam. How would they stop?...

My Dad was in shock, as he stood by the gate,
a glaze in his eyes, ......and a million years old

My feet froze in place, and knees shivered cold
but as the sun rose, I reached out to hold
his hand in the dawn, and took the control

I took him inside, and with deliberate intrusion
I fed him some soup, and put him to bed
He was the child, and I the adult
Day after day, somehow by default
our roles were reversed, ...and I became strong
My childhood had ended,.....and his had begun

Suicide Default

Nothing was wrong with the leap;
It was made according to plan,
but the design was interrupted
by the abruptness of the plunge.
Maybe… there was a change of heart
somewhere in midair.
It is marked by a yelp of despair.
The sound of his pain bounces like a jax ball
from the walls of his cylindrical doom.
His every cry echoes like voices on St. Hilda’s square.
Each feeble movement, in his watery tomb,
vibrates like that old proverbial sound of the bongo.
He lie there; a bundle of pain,
and regret he didn’t measure the depth to his death.
The silence pinched the minute there,
while the little dirty-face angel argued his state elsewhere.
St. Hilda’s Memorial, the place of his death.
Under soft cotton covers he stole his last breath.

In Default Of

In default of,….
Stern reprimands are uncles to say for china mouths.
China would being force to say uncles and then fall.
In default of laws are china tyrants’ hearts.
Entire ways in depth are china loves with stunts. They are nasty nice.
Going into details all are china hegemony ways.
Only hopes for crossing hearts are yes and agree to officers’ careerism also kowtow well to typical tyranny.
Strain related are moods that got going into tyrants putting traps. China now may need to damn.

From default yes to designed no

O to live life in relentless outreach
And still stay put, stagnant, nowhere to reach,
To struggle hard, getting not so in hand,
To feign busy as if a butterfly,
Or a productive bee nevertheless,
O to say thoughtless yes in place of no,
To make hurried choices on onward ho,
And still fail to find meaningful flurry
Amidst meaninglessness of life lived in hurry.

What need be done not so in life to fret
Is slow to say yes, to deliberate,
Not so quick, vacillate nor hesitate,
A secret to live life free from regret.
‘Wish, I’d courage to live life but my own,
‘And not lived per someone’s expectations’,
Some, terminally ill on deathbed, wish.
A firm and deliberate no often
Saves one from a thoughtless and a suicidal yes.

And oftentimes to opt what not to do,
More telling turns out O than what to do.
*****sapiens are we, for, we can think,
And humans, not apes, for, we well can choose.
Why, one wonders, man opts for default mode,
Over a more proactive design mode.
For, less is often more, even better,
Why not that be the choice, a chosen mode,
Mere invitation’s no reason enough to go.

Let’s chase nothing in life nigh meaningless,
Nor forget to pursue the meaningful,
Nor miss out what’s central and essential
In blind pursuit of things peripheral.
In focusing upon the dead knickknacks,
Not to forget what’s alive, very life--
Things ever so meaningful and blissful,
Not deceitful, truthful, nor beautiful,
And say a deliberate no than a quick yes.

Politicians ready to bet
Will play with the national debt
They think they control
How the dice will roll
But may cause a gambler’s regret

Authors note: Last time this happened, the Federal Government shut down and stopped making payments to its employees. The air traffic controllers who were working without pay started a slow down and President Trump decided to give in rather than face a catastrophe.

This time, it looks more serious as some in Congress feel they can use the debt limit to force concessions. This could get very ugly in June. Imagine if social security payments stop. Until then, the government will use accounting tricks to pay our obligations. Of course, we should reduce spending and adjust taxation for fairness and to promote the health of our planet, but we need a long-term sensible negotiated bipartisan plan for that.

So It Began By Default

By default it began
By default it commenced
In error, but ignored
Uniformed but never really significant
Watching as it falls
As it fails and resists
Pushing against the static wall
Refusing any obligatory responses
Eyes blackened out
     Sight evolved beyond recognition
Suddenly seeing all
All knowing and now all apparent
Tried to fool, to disguise, to make what is-
                                                             isn't
Yet conquers the knowing of the mind
Knowing that none of this really exists
Never been
Never will it be
Rushing against the obvious
Rushing past what one thinks they believe
All a lie made to comfort-
When in truth only aroused to deceive
No resilliance worth profit
If one sacrifices all that ever meant anything
So it becomes ripened
From bush ample and ready to be plucked
To be devoured in its youth
To never know the complications of growing old and up.

Premium Member My Muse In Default

Far from the din of madding crowd,
Away from the bustle of city life
I withdrew into a solitary spot,
To turn my thoughts into dazzling verse.
Shelley and Shakespeare came in view,
Emily and Eliot fell in line,
Their verses ringing loud and clear,
Their energy fanning fire within

I dreamt of putting proper words,
To clothe my thoughts in striking lines,
Longed to pour my loaded heart,
In powerful verse to move the hearts
But as I started scrawling down,
All that I had stored in hoards –
Ebbed out into mere froth and foam,
Leaving only broken thoughts

Will my Muse be here once again?
Or is it better to leave my thoughts unspoken?

However, I strained hard to give them life,
And labored in vain to make them rhyme,
‘The Blazing Sun’ and ‘Brilliant Stars’,
All faded out with no trace of glow.
I envisioned before me the Sacred Mount,
To drink from the fountain gushing down,
Alas! Only hot lava spurted out,
And the wings of fancy burnt outright!

Sad, my Muse didn’t appear to enliven me,
Nor my fantasy lingered long,
I stared blank into the scroll in front,
Unable to scribble even a moving thought.
Like a soldier vanquished in war,
I put away my pen for the time being,
Hoping my Muse would come down soon,
To inspire and help me script immortal verse!

Winner By Default

My Dad always used to say

Better to win honestly and
with integrity in tact

Than by default

Because your competition was
having a bad or off day

A hollow victory is still a victory
to some, it still gets your name
engraved on the trophy

Champion elect for the year

Right here, right now, every day of my life,
I return to nothing at all,
Back to the place of four walls and a chair,
Back to a lifestyle default,

Where I can hear the voice whisper to me,
Close my eyes and see the voice dance,
Where I know the one true love of my life,
Is my solitary four twenty plant,

You see, way down inside in the deeper than deep,
It’s the place where I feel the most,
It’s the way I can live after the day has occurred,
Where I snuggle belief, trust and hope,

I’m alone with nothing on detention again,
Detention with my very best friend,
Where I will discuss and talk about life,
With this love living up in my head.

Default Positions

Nothing hurts more
than the blunted arrow
the grazing punch,
the half-slur.
Insinuation
from a sibilant slander
whispered to a sleeping cat
haunts many ears.

She was a woman dammed to be
a love for me. My curse
was to desire her.
We were a cage-fight for passions
yet in the end
no one was hailed a winner,
we limped away
damaged by near misses.

Nothing stings
as much as a sharp pen
made to snap and scratch
upon a blank page.
People will read,
peer between lines
that are not there.

Swear they knew all a long
we were flailing beneath
a hurricane that had no eye
and a storm that had no teeth.

Government May Default

Government May Default

By Elton Camp

I admit that the details are far from clear
But I don’t like what it is that I now hear

If the U.S. cannot pay what it does owe
Then into a tailspin the economy will go

How about all of those highly paid folk
Some seem to act as if it is all some joke

If into default the government does go
I’m sure they’ll draw their salary, though

Why can’t they give their brains a wracking
To find the solution that the country’s lacking

Their lack of action the people are now tracking
And could very easily send all of them packing
