Premium Member Sunbonnet

She shuffled by our house, so slow and bent,
No second thought of where the lady went.
On her return, no one around to see.
A shaded path, she blended with the trees.

We children always giggled, as she passed.
A group emboldens others to harrass.
Our high pitched jeering from a hidden niche,
The frail, sunbonnet lady, we yelled "witch".

One day a fever kept me home from class.
I saw her weary shuffle down the path.
My over-active need to know convened.
I followed with excitement and unseen.

A house engulfed by weeds grown thick and tall,
As vines of every species claimed the walls.
Around the side, a window to peek in;
A man in bed with twisted, throbbing limbs.
.
The lady rubbed a salve to ease his pain.
And hummed a long forgotten song's refrain.

I blurted all I'd seen to mom and dad.
He stood in shocked alert and mom grew sad.

How soon the path was plowed into a drive,
A grocer truck and red-light cops arrived.
I last recall a fancy bike, brand new.
Events seem blurred, with growing up to do.

The Black Hills wept for Thee

East of the Black Hills of South Dakota,
On the Pine Ridge Reservation,
Live a proud tribe of Oglala Lakota,
Part of the Great Sioux Nation.

On saddled chargers rode half the Regiment,
of the Seventh Cavalry.
A tune they played on behalf of the GarryOwen,
was such a sight to see.

While climbing through Prickly pines, they spied,
near the summit of Porcupine Butte.
Spotted Elk with Hunkpapa Lakota tribe,
the chief of the Minneconjou.

Five miles West through the cold day they walked,
the Lakota and soldiers of the Seventh,
Where Wounded Knee creek's icy waters balked,
between hell and heaven.

The Colonel ordered all of the tribe's rifles confiscated,
while the braves danced the ghost dance.
For rumor had spread of a new religion, long awaited,
that would turn the tide of chance.

Then suddenly came the report of rifles fired,
as the women and children fled to a ravine.
From the heights the thunder of cannon, now inspired,
close quarter fighting and lead, now convened.

Who knows where Providence went,
on that cold December morning.
Both guilty and innocent, now spent,
lay dead with little warning.

Bodies of the fallen now sprawled across the snowy plains,
with faces frozen in a moment of violence.
One mass grave with all, is all that remains,
of tears and laughter forever silenced.

In the days that followed medals were pinned to chests,
who proclaimed victoriously.
Though God only knows why, ignoble and divest,
life taken in vain, ingloriously.

In the shadow of the land of Sitting Bull,
was now told the tragic story.
Passed down from Mother to Daughter were recounted,
days of lost glory.

“Let us put our minds together to see what life we can make for our children.”

Premium Member Two Presidents convened

Two Presidents convened on this date,
reportedly to negotiate, the end of the
war and Ukraine's fate..
Instead the President of the United States,
and his very arrogant running mate,
chose to publicly bully and intimidate,
cause that's how we "make America great."
President Zelensky didn't take their bait.
He's a man of character, a Presidential trait,
and Ukraine's still a democracy. It's not
the "deep state".

Premium Member The Seafarer

Seafarer sat by the turbulent sea
Watching the offing and watching the waves;
Smiling with small teeth, the color of tea
Recalling journeys and the friends he’d made;

Photographs earmarking the good ole days,
The mariner clutched inside his hands
He long for the billows, brine, and the glade -
To brave the waves on his boat once again

“Clarice and I, sailed the seven seas!”
He’d boast to beachgoers every day
Vivid tales, made him a celebrity
As he talked about quests in lands far away

The people convened at summer’s end
To make the seafarer’s wish come true
They repaired the sailor’s battered friend -
So he could return to the oceans blue

Seafarer sat on the turbulent sea
Watching the offing and watching the waves;
Smiling with small teeth, the color of tea
Recalling journeys and the friends he’d made;

The Waterway

Riddles twisting through the scalps,
Trace the paths that wind about
Pouring out through the watery spout
Like waterfalls, inside and out
Possessed by a madness,
Sadness reaps my every thought
Isolated by my shadow, I’m laying in the dark
And the river flows faster as the ferry embarks,
Behind brown eyes, find a crimson spark
As your prayer begins,
He seeks the mark of a sin,
Let the silver sink in,
Embracing your skin
And while every breath escapes from your heart,
You ask him, “What makes thee force my depart?”
With a love so strong, “Till death do us apart”
Day after day, this phrase you’d impart.
But when all control is powered by a fiend,
Darkness meets light, and the two are convened.
The passion of one causes will to concede,
Even when sacrifice compels thee to bleed.
And nothingness gathers to deliver me downward
Live amongst souls, and regret begins to shower
Blind to your ravenous taste to devour
From the day we began, you’ve dwelled within power
But confusion arouses where you don’t understand
I continue to love you, beyond my command
Dare you to rid me, you think that you can
But I’ll linger in this stream, from now till your end.

This Present Darkness

Freedom I long to hear your bells ring
If you only knew what it would do to me
Auspice and a pair of Jacks, its sudden destruction
And the Poetry World's composure was completely destroyed
As we complete the circle of Life and Avalanche and bury the Poets
The organ plays and the funeral starts
As they compete with a man of God
Angel's and Chariots of fire
A demonstration of God's Power on earth
Extraordinary as her performance, I express myself
Court is convened now, she got the message
A star falls, I expand,
Lost Treasure discovered inside ourselves
How could I deny the fact
You gave me strength when no one else was ever there!

Christmas Treasure

a narrative with the rhyme of Twas the Night Before Christmas)

Twas the night before Christmas, the manger's convinced,
it stands ready to cradle a Savior and Prince.
The no vacancy sign caused men's wonder and doubt,
manger's role is a pivot. God's working it out!

As we gawk, looking on well-known scene from the past
deeming inn-keeper's choice of a manger - miscast.
Though the stable was clean, men have questioned, reviled
why this ignoble place to birth God's only Child?

Host of animals set, angels' message is heard
in the Bethlehem fields causing sheep no small stir.
"Give all glory to God, there's no reason to fear,"
Lamb of God has come down; 'tis the season to cheer.

Time elapsed since the manger, a star claims the scene
in fair Bethlehem town, we find kings have convened.
The star signaled their hope in the easternmost skies
God cut short anxious Herod's deceitful disguise.

Those three gifts that kings brought were the promise and fee
this young family needed when God said to flee.
Christmas treasure? not ours. Divine worth's more complex;
God can use all those things we'd mark off with an " X ".

Premium Member Reflective Soul - 2

I sit silently, so still
On the wooden chair in the den
Beside a window, sun raining in
Baptizing my thoughts
In warmth, blazing breaths
Of faraway wonders

The seat I sit upon
Once was a sturdy oak
Filled with dancing leaves
Sunshine purred through
Composing a song
Of detailed hopes, dreams
Pondered by graying
Branches so powerful
Cardinals and wrens convened
On them, a meeting
Heart, soul and mind
Chirping and crooning delight
As they while away the mornings

Reflecting on the mysteries
God’s wisdom, His creativity
Smiling from a sun who gleams
Against a backdrop of ridges
Emerald and sapphire mountains
Peaks like the hands lifted
In prayer, praising Him
The Maker of their wrinkles
The Reason for the massifs
Who preach hope, faith and love
Mixed together with joy and peace

As I sit on my wooden seat
Echoing my heart
Grace promises me to listen
As I share my soul
Glorifying the One who knows
My thought are the thoughts of
The gladness of knowing
His rising Son, the only One
To bring true hope
For the yearning soul

In the shadows of the setting sun
His peace reveals the saving love
I long for, plead for, wait for
With each prayer my thoughts invoke

Death May Be Your Santa Claus

Another morning gone. The warp and weft
of kids and errands seems a sort of theft.
I love to listen to the phone-in show,
Peoria Euphoria K Seven, Illinois,
the kind of thing that housewives can enjoy -
Andrea Doria, Eva Longoria -
but parents don’t have rights. I’ve got to go.

Another morning spent. The spare room painted.
I poured the soup away, since it was tainted.
He mixed his caustic soda in the bowl,
with Pennsylvania always on his mind
(Bryn Mawr mainliner – guess you know the kind –)
Brainier, mania, Lusitania
and wiped it once around with kitchen roll.

Another morning done. The suit dry-cleaned.
A neighbourhood committee’s been convened.
Initial meet – the Wilsons’ brand new deck –
how was it financed? Heaven only knows.
Seaworthy credit? Like the Mary Rose!
Wegmans, Wayfair, Wakefern, Wickes …
(Let’s hope the builders wait to cash the check).

Another morning over. Turkey basted.
Last night, the almond cupcakes went untasted.
I don’t know why I go to all the trouble –
they raid the fridge for fudge and mayonnaise:
don’t call it eating. Kids today just graze.
Athletic greens, soya beans, proteins –
I sometimes think I’m living in a bubble.

Another morning down. The carpet hoovered.
The garbage bin unemptied, outmanouvered.
It looks so comfy, nestled in its cleft.
The city elders park outside their own,
so why can’t we? Is this a yellow zone?
Organic waste, paper chased, cadmium-laced.
Another morning gone. How many left?

Premium Member Who Should I Thank

You may feel about the planet what
you feel about a great baseball team or band:
that once there was a moment when, unknown
to us at the time, we convened
and lost and found ourselves in what we created.

Who should I thank for this day?
A fresh-mown lawn is a robin's repast.
A bear a black bear a rolling delicately dancing
graceful as silence sailing through the ferns and understory
unafraid and in no hurry.

My musician referral service, vacation rental business,
nonprofit management system, plant identification database,
great American songbook and anthology of poems. Coach says
in a thousand years back and forth games like lacrosse and soccer
will be played against genetically engineered primates

but baseball will be played solely by humans.
In a thousand years, amen.

Riots of London

Liberty Hall

The halls are packed with Liberty,
She cries FREEDOM on the streets.
The halls are packed with Liberty,
The children forgo their sweets.

Let's have a Ball

Smash and grab, fire asunder
Take what you can, who cares!
Come on people, lets' plunder,
Don't worry about the stares.

It's your Call

Hey coppers, we're over here,
What are you going to do in blue?
Like Goliath you have the spear
But we have our stones too.

England's Fall

Forever England, forever scarred,
A scared community up in arms,
Houses burnt, vehicles charred,
Come citizens, sound the alarm.

Murdered All

Standing up for justice,
Protecting innocent blood,
"That's when the motorist
Ran them over m'lud".

England's Rise

To arms people of England
And bring your brooms to sweep
Up those in the gutter and
Take them off to the Keep

It's Our Call

We'll clear our streets of chard
Of glass and wash away the blood.
We know that recession hits you hard
And poverty's doors opened the flood.

The PM's Call

To those of you who caused this pain
I say to you again and again;
"We shall seek you out, bang on your door
To prison you'll go and join the score."

The Rioters Ball.

To the party the hoodies went
Headline news and infamy gained,
Lusted and busted, their energy spent
Their futures ordained and chained.

Whitehall

The doors of power convened in suit
And Judgement Day sprang to life.
Murmurings and guffaws of repute
Resonated like Churchillian days of rife.

Premium Member The Trials of Meretrix Canto V

Here, this day, on this inglorious
Field
Thy vain struggles will count no
Valour.
All hope now abandoned,
Imminent defeat unconcealed;
Erstwhile countenance display
Such waxen, languid pallor.
Surround by your dwindling
Forces
Ye will but sadly find...
That the stout keep of your
Valiant fortress is all but breached,
Once strong foundations failing -
Wherest badly undermined!

For a rigorous examination beckons
ye;
Stood before impassioned jurors
Chosen from the feared and all
Powerful families of the ignoble
Medici.
Black curtains drawn back from
Deep reveals
That look out over the enlightened
Years...
Where conceals...
Hidden between leafs of peremptory
Decree:-
A blight spread upon these lands,
Inflicted from Romes insidious
Plans -
That cause stain upon the
Renaissance of a golden century!

When clapping thunder breaks and
Brazen lightening clashes
Still I would know ye again:
A pounding, frenzied reflex devoid
Of all Godly purpose -
Detached from any amount of
Blame!
For I have sought ye out, O lowly
Meretrix;
Heaping upon you with bondage
Enforced through servitude and
Shame;
And I, O lowly Meretrix,
I...hereby command thy name.

A fastidious Advocate of intellectual
Character
Shallst I elect,
He who be a practitioner of
Theological proposal unrefrained,
To represent you -
Raised from the rank files of the
Dead and slain!
A public gallery, wherest seated,
Ghostly phantasms
That I purposefully select;
And for a judge - A deathly one:
Ill measured, worshipfully detached,
Beneath it all,
And hopelessly arcane.

This "Innocent" fool, dressed in
Guise of highest ecclesiastical
Enforcer,
Perpetuated a medieval Inquisition,
Both protracted and prolonged,
That openly boasted and rejoiced
In its zealous slaughter!
Thereby spawned a terrible edict -
"Ad Extirpanda":-
Cannon law that advocates the
Use of "Legitimate torture"!

Know thee also, Meretrix, the Pius
Pontiff,
Heaven sent,
Who in his greater wisdom
Convened over
The council of Trent:
Four hundred years spanning
Across a Reformations fears;
Reaffirmed when Pope John,
In reflective reiteration,
Was heard to chillingly hiss:
"What was...Still is"!

TO BE CONTINUED...

Premium Member Selfie

They take their picture in a car, on a plane, and by the pool,
Mowing the lawn, doing the dishes, and even at school.
But the strangest one by far that I have seen,
Was at a local funeral home before it convened.

Some selfies look beautiful, with no preparation or fuss,
While others look like they have just been run over by a bus.
It is all done spur of the moment and in fun,
To share a precious moment for their loved ones.

Nikola Tesla

Tesla what in the hell did they do to you.
They stole your ideas and then they left you,
Sitting with nothing they stole your dreams.
They took your gadgets and your machines.

Edison admitted he should not have let you go.
The biggest mistake that he would ever know.
At the 1893 Worlds Fair your talent shined.
When you lit up the world with your light design.

You and Westinghouse were quite a team.
Going to build a Power Plant till gold convened.
The richest man in America he took control.
In this venture J. P. Morgan played the title role.

You had almost 300 patents in your name.
Most of them would be unrecognized with no acclaim.
It would be a few more years before you are known.
For contributions that were your own.

So Mr Nikola Tesla here’s to you.
The fame you would receive you never knew.
I guess better late than never I hope Edison knows.
The spoils of the battle to the victor goes.
