Best Brightest Poems
Like the brightest stars we fade in time
Losing the sparkling diamond in our eyes
Our zest for excitement slowly subsides
Attempts to succeed become futile tries.
The light we send out diminishes with age
Life, as in childhood, is no longer sublime
Each day we slowly turn another page,
And think about when it will be our time
While frantically trying to recoup our youth
Knowing the past has slipped slowly away,
We cling to our wit and humor often uncouth
Searching for real meaning in every day.
Not retrievable in this fleeting dimension
We search for vestiges of elusive truth,
In a restless world filled with hatefulness
While protecting our own, staying aloof.
Until no longer the night sky projecting,
We burn out in a barely noticed blaze of glory,
And hope upon hope, not really certain,
Someone will care enough to tell our story.

When Red Sunset, Shines Its Brightest Inspiring Lights
When morning glories glow, your closed heart opens again
dawn's breaking light shows, a true faithful, loyal friend;
can you then cleanse the hate from your embittered eyes
open hard closed ears to hear this heart's saddest cries?
Recall our friendship, and cherished years we both knew,
remember we fought this dark world, just me and you!
When red sunset, shines its brightest inspiring lights
you feel that cool night's soft breeze, forget our big fights;
see a future when we can dance under new stars
forget the hard times, those bitterest of our scars!
Hold to sworn vows, that united once tender souls,
take a chance, toss the dice, see how it all rolls!
If this poem sent, with its sadden heartfelt plea
can repair the great damage, heal both you and me;
send back this letter sealed with a red lipstick kiss
write pretty love words, the ones that I dearly miss!
Please meet me there at our favorite lakeside spot,
sweet darling, give this broken man another shot!
Recall our friendship, and cherished years we both knew,
remember we fought this dark world, just me and you!
Hold to sworn vows, that united once tender souls,
take a chance, toss the dice see how it all rolls.
Meet me Friday at our favorite lakeside spot,
sweet darling, give this broken man another shot!

Rhyme, ( The Letter Sent)
Edited version of a poem written over 42 years ago.
Although heart-sent and truly felt, there was no reuniting and love thus reborn, however life did march ever onward and the torn, worn, weary and broken heart was not swiftly healed. Yet time eventually did heal it...

Transition From Deep Dark To Brightest Light
(Chained Sonnet--100 words)
Within dreams sent into this world of shades
shades full of heartaches and long slashing blades
blades severing sleeping rest on soft nights
nights of diminished hope and sharpest pains.
Pains of death at this sad door now knocking
knocking that promise evil in the flesh
flesh burnt hot, flayed back exposing raw nerves
nerves once made of black iron and hard steel.
Steel born of ancient warrior's deepest pride
pride in truth, honoring family name
name reminding one of future promise
promise of blessings and rewarded fame.
Fame's generosity and greater love
Love pure, in serving only God above

In pounding Summer, our love is restless,
like daffodil dreams immersed in hot wind.
In the vapor of Winter’s reign, our love rises above,
reaching the glaring mountain’s lips.
If skies cloud red with war, our love exuberates the fight,
two hearts gazing at the wisdom of the sun .
If thunder pangs our heart in static shocks,
our love shawls the sound, refuging the embrace we won.
When the buds of Spring bloom, our love emboldens,
like the yellow petals on a matchless rose.
When Autumn sings its death, our love silvers,
the harvest beckoning our works to fall and resolve.
From the Hour of Languishing to the Day of Settlement,
our love will continue to strengthen.
From season to season I love you always!
My one, my only, my Brightest Star.

Ode
The candles of the forest brightly lit
to bid adieu the solstice harvest moon
that races through the branches where it fits
much like the sun which flickers there at noon.
Across the rolling hills now tinged with frost
and through the valley fog that drifts in sleep
a whisper of the season is embossed
like crochet doilies tossed upon a sheet.
So peacefully it sings the last hurrah
that echoes through each cherished year that goes
- reflections of the past when last we saw
the answered prayers of peace as they arose.
Then naked Winter's chill will quickly rush,
but not before one final Autumn blush.

Brightest Of Gems, In Glowing Emerald Forest
There was a great tree there, its roots firmly planted
as solid as love vows, those never recanted,
its massive trunk and limbs, majestic to behold
beautiful treasures, as in tales oft retold
surrounding woods, a glimmering emerald green
all in all, as if from a bright fairy tale scene.
To visit, watch dawn's lights set it colors aglow
is to see Heaven and Nature's truth, clearly know,
our lives are wrapped in fragile, weakened human states
chained cells of wants, each one praying its not too late
seeing evidence of Heaven's stamp upon earth
giving promises of better life, ones own worth.
To find such peace basking in its soft healing touch
one should kneel down to pray, requesting not too much,
for Heaven's light flows forth from that massive, tall king
from its branches, flocks of glorious birds oft sing
within its cools shades, its living colors send out
proof of God's glory, that cause believers to shout.

Love, I get love is more than a game the young play,
It is life one commits, not caged bird ‘shopped’ to mine
In the hope lives are saved that don’t sleep in harm’s way!
How can chemistry alter what man can’t refine?
Love is more than a look or a flirt in a mall
And is much more than cash you can steal, spend, or earn.
More accrued by a talent that’s honed by each fall,
Than by lumens discharged when we spark, or hearts burn!
Is it love that we’ve found when acquaintances flatter?
Does sharing a hobby like tennis or eating suggest
Love might be in the offing? Is love more a matter
Of saying, “Love look! I am here (with no test or retest)!
You are inside my borders, beyond reservation,
All love’s where you find it! Can ‘Grace’ be the child of ‘Intent?’
It’s like tropical moisture, trees rain the foundation
For life that surrounds, or can ‘Grace’ be constrained by consent?
Is it people who serve me or those I best serve
Who shine light on God’s leading when ‘push comes to shove?’
Do those get more who give love away or conserve?
Is the servant or fool more ‘admirer’ of Love?
Love, I know what I want, and I want it today!
What I prize most of all? To be Grace to your dreams,
To Grace others, engaged by time’s Author’s staged play
Where poor actors have roles their mute action redeems!

Just like the number, twenty nine, I was in my prime
A rowdy reprobate at large whose life had no design
Then one day, the blue sky fell and landed on my heart
A star was born and spared my life picked up the broken parts
She tied me to her finger where she wore me like a ring
Then took control and played me like a puppet on a string
I entertained and danced for her she grew and laughed out loud
And every time she called me dad I danced from cloud to cloud
My darkest day my star took off, bright shooting star to roam
She kept my heart but left some dreams for me to call my own
Sometimes sad melancholy visits me which irritates my scar
I simply walk out on my porch and dream among the stars.

The Brightest Star
Extending my arms, I arose
I stood, reaching on my tiptoes
to grasp the brightest star
in the distance afar
magical rainbow transpose
Mystifying and strange happenings
developing wings and rising
excitement that astound
I spread my arms spellbound
embracing the star that is sparkling
Magnificent glow in the night skies
nearer the star I had to close my eyes
the brighter it became
I overcame the flame
grasping a peace in my heart that defies
Suddenly caressed like an infant
experiencing warmth, reverent
ambience of heaven
my eyes slowly open
in the Lord’s loving embracement
With His profound loving presence
bound to believe my continuance
life affairs imperative
I need to go back and live
with Lord blessed strength and endurance

Mom,
I always thought
you would be there to help me
shop for a prom dress,
get ready for graduation,
plan my wedding,
or raise my own children.
So, now that you're gone,
I look up at the stars.
I realize you are
The brightest star
and you're still always there
to guide me.

THE BRIGHTEST STAR
To view the brightest violent star,
that glints and glitters from it's scar.
It's life is burning, blurred and far,
we cannot know, just where they are.
The brightest star takes breath and lives,
in sparks and flares, it dusts through sieves.
From a faint galaxy home, it gives,
a joy and bliss, it winks and lives.
Delightful in which one contemplates,
It is our neighbor that winks and waits.
Away our breath it reels and takes,
and puzzles us with the home it makes.
Refracted, Diffracted, Inflected light,
splayed from slight of eye to sight of site.
Tucked in berth, by birth, to be in flight,
Camouflaged the brightest star in white.

Darkest day, brightest night-
Golden ray, silver light-
Happy smile, dreadfully sorrow-
Stay awhile, eternity borrow-
Give me your hand, and lend me your shine-
Gorgeous girl with eyes so fine-
Give a man as I a chance-
I promise your life I will enhance-

Your Face Glowed Like Brightest Of Rose Flowers
In that past life you were the only one,
sweetest filling in my first apple pie.
Now time cries out loud, we are both undone
our broken tears fall like rains from the sky.
Weep not fair maiden, life gives and it takes,
for its shadows have sad echoes ringing.
Mourn ye not so, for dearest heaven's sakes,
tomorrow life will gift dances and singing.
Midnight, you swore eternity was ours,
yet Fate that wretched beast has final say.
Your face glowed like brightest of rose flowers
Rejoice in those treasures, we had our day!
In hidden paths, we may yet meet again.
Not as star-crossed lovers but as lost friends!
