Cattle Drive, Aussie Style

Cattle Drive

Roll over a bit in me swag
Get some bones clear of the ground
Dew is on us swag cover is wet
Dingo is howling around

The cattle are camped in the corner
The frogs are croaking, smile creeps
Old horse has the nose bag on
Oats n the chaff for his keep

Fox has his nose in the camp oven
Cattle dog snarls n he freaks
Fox has blurted and gone now
Cattle dog goes back to sleep

At daylight we are catching the horses
Hobbles come off as they squeak
Saddle and mount a grumpy horse
be unloaded, you’re bloody weak :)

Old horse drops his head again smartly
Pigroots around the flat
Stay with him mate it’s only
oats causing springing like that.

Cattle move on down the Stockroute
15 mile a day cross water n creeks
40 mile to the railhead Darby
The Shielas are waiting so sweet.

Nightmare Strums the Loom

Nightmare strums the Loom

A dream I guess perhaps it was
I seemed a child at play
An angry father did appear
His temper foul that day

You let the dog kill the cat
He loudly said to me
Grabbing the dog
And it went splat
Little dog he died you see

I was shocked awake
By the violent scene
And looked across the room
Grey ghostly cat went zip and back
Grey doggie was there soon

Do we travel in our sleep
Old adventures other tunes
Another place and time we creep
When Nightmare strums the loom

Taking a Test

nails being chewed, answers being scribbled,
nothing is new, but this question on the table,
it isn't math, or language perhaps,
but what is it then?

i keep repeating the question, in my mind,
its funny how it feels like, i left something behind,
is it my knowledge or breakfast, a good and ready start,
is it my keys to the house, keys to the car?

what is it i'm missing, that i need for today or this test,
maybe i didn't sleep too well, i need some rest?

or maybe just maybe, i need to be encouraged,
to have my parents tell me you'll be the best,
no that couldn't be it, its another quest.

then why am i staring, at this question below,
feeling like i'm missing something, something's troubled,
and then it hit me, like batter hits the ball,
i didn't chain up my dog at all.

and this question it says, the dog ran down the street,
and where do they go, where do they meet,
oh no, i thought, as i got to my feet,
thinking about testing week...

oh well, i said,
as i went through the door,
my dogs and my family,
matter more....

"the Old Farm"

I sat by the fire one dark, stormy night
reading a book which filled me with fright-
My dog was snoozing on the rug by the door,
the cat was meowing and pacing the floor-

The lightning it dazzled as the thunder did crack,
a sudden chill wind had crawled up my back;
I sat up with a start, spilling my cup
which splashed on the dog, waking him up!

He started to barking and chasing the cat,
who jumped on the curtain and tore it in fact-
Now I yelled at them both as I reached for the broom,
bringing silence once more while sweeping the room-

The clock had struck twelve when a knocking I hear,
getting louder and louder as I slowly crept near;
Throwing the latch I peeked out with much care,
greatly surprised, seeing no one out there-

I was very relieved while resuming my book
when a scratch at my window urged me to look-
I peered ever so close at that sinister face,
all green and ferocious, an ogre from space-

The dog stood there laughing and trimming my hair,
and the cat was a'whistling while dancing in air;
I then closed my eyes and started chanting, I think
when a monkey appeared, all portly and pink-

I cried in despair and leapt from my seat,
while a rooster was crowing and pecking my feet;
I readied myself to fly like a rocket,
when a mouse started singing and jumped in my pocket-

I won't tell you no more, I just don't recall
except for a frog, who was fifteen feet tall-
Twas only a dream and I awoke in my bed,
my dog snoring beside me, my cat lickin' my head-

The sights I have seen are no cause for alarm,
I've spent many a year on this haunted old farm!

Aries

Man's best friend or "just a dog"
I've had this debate forever
But my dog is something,different,unique
Something otherworldly..however...
Aries is his name...he's tan and white
With deep and soulful brown eyes
This "I'm just a dog" and I know nothing's
Very obviously a disguise
Did you ever wonder for just a split second
If there was more to your pet than you
knew?
If maybe,just maybe..this lovely creature
knew more about your destiny than YOU!!!
You see I don't wonder this,I take it as fact
And MANY have called me insane
But sit and stay are just a teeny glimpse of
what's being held in his brain
She's sad she's mad she's hurting right
now and he's licked the tears off my face
If you can't tell THAT is a guardian angel
then that is a sad sad disgrace
These pets that we love are here for a
reason, placed in our lives just so
For reasons like the people are placed in
our lives, reasons we may never know
The only thing I seem to know for sure is
that dog is my only true friend
He has been since birth and always will be
now until the very end
Corny I know,a poem about a pet that says
oh I love you and you ate so cute
But the next time you take a good look at
scrappy...just think...do they know more
than we do???

Dingo

..DINGO..
Out in the west the wild Brumbies still roam,
there you`ll find red Dingo the sheep killer dog.
Dog netting fences are there to keep the sheep home,
Roo holes let him through like a Frog.
Wild Pigs burrow under this fence,
and leave another hole.
The cunning dog looks for them with good sense,
to find a way in is his goal.
So then he`s in amongst the Sheep ,
to weed a killer out.
More than one will go to deathly sleep,
I have no cause to doubt.
With dead Sheep laying all about,
he`ll eat his fill, old Dingo.
The Fox will watch until he`s gone,
he`ll starve the Crows by jingo.
Well daylight comes and the crows arrive,
will they pick these bones so bare.
Old man goanna eats away inside.
Yes the crows do tear their hair.
A few days do pass, now his stomach it is empty.
The dog returns to the easy sport,
of sheep there sure are plenty.
The worms do bite to feed the thought,
he`ll kill just two not twenty.
The doggers rifle shot rings out,
old red he staggers plenty.
He stopped to smell piddle fresh about,
shot dead by a 25. 20.
Old Johnson the dogger had set his traps,
on the dingo`s route he knew.
Dog piss he dripped right across his tracks,
to a dog trap cruel but true.
He sometimes used a shotgun trap,
made of water pipe with care.
The shell got fired by a 2 inch nail,
trip wired this deadly snare.

Beach B B

Beach, I went sunburnt,
Evidently, I learnt,
Across the road ,
Cantered cane toads,
Henry thought it’s fine,
Bull mastiff Jerry Hog's,
Laugh's at every bodies dogs,
A growling all the time .
No body wore their togs,
Kangaroos were banned,
Elisa sat and did count frogs,
Too hot the ladies fanned,
But later on the Hog had gone,
I thought he did it nicely,
Not the dog on the grog,
Go a bit unsound precisely,
Over dog diddle cocked leg widdle, worn so nicely.

ALLITERATION?
Met her on the Balmoral tram in 68 or 9,
mostly she was short and sweet our eyes did lock,
miss Dark hair, she'd brought some wine.
Maybe came together once sublime and then she went away.
My fate to meet, a child to make, & parted from that day.
My boy was born in 69 perhaps an adopted fate,
May wonder where is he now this Dan or Nathan maybe 28?

Abc?
All I wanted was the sex,
But she wanted babies,
Can I take a bloody bex, (pain killer)
Don’t care much for rabies,
Every time I vacillate,
Frown it comes with maybes…
