Keeping Score

The bartender strolls from one
end of the counter to the other.
She makes small talk with regulars
who watch NFL games on screens
and a college basketball game
plays on another.
For each touchdown scored
mugs are raised.
Fans analyze every run and play
and the day unfolds.
while the bartender pours beers.
She says her boyfriend and dog
are at home.
A man at the end of the bar
pays his tab.
A woman from public housing
pushes her walker and sits
in their midst.
She’s come in to watch Cubs games
and she’s here again
although baseball season is over.

A Walk, Late Winter's

As long its walk, moist o'erhangs
This way, that, joint-wended;
As long, you, chill-wetted through
Have, of it, re-stated:

"I doubt this late winter day
Of dullness, redeemably
In a brightness of showing
Any, looked on can be!"

Shake this palely tumbling mass
A pear tree's, musky-full
And tell me, if you are not
Splashed of the beautiful?

Long, winding gravel driveway
  decrepit old Mercury station wagon
    parked there
    doors unlocked
    those big red buttons
    sticking up
     no seatbelts either
Tiger lilies blooming
  all-at-once, on
  either side
  of the gravel
A few years later
  a cockeyed backboard
  appeared on a tree
    supporting an
    uneven, rickety
    basketball rim

Winters we spent shoveling snow

The Two Sides of Bad Weather

Near the end of October, a gelid wind blew
and froze the corollas of the dainty daisies;
it came as a surprise, sad was the face of Matthew,
no baseball in the field that echoed with screams!

Arthur, the coach, who used to chew gum and eat chips
sat inside his office checking out the unpredictable weather,
nothing promised a break in the clouds, so he bit his lips;
Lydia's eyes were sad and teary, she was the cheerleader!

The young players decided to play basketball in the Gymnasium,
they didn't really miss the baseball game as much as Tim did
who sat in a remote corner and seemed to experience Librium;
a bunch of kids rushed in not sure for which team they would bid!

As winter bent trees and stripped flowers from all gardens,
inside everybody was having fun cheering for their team;
all the doors were locked and a stranded dog emitted barks,
Cindy came out and let him in as he huffed at Joachim!

Winter, spring, summer, fall
These aren’t the seasons at all

The first is Christmas giving
Makes me happy to be living

March Madness is a blast
Three short weeks, so it doesn’t last

Vacation may be the best
Anytime you go on a quest

College football is the best of all
Unless you are a goofball

Say Them

There are three words we overuse
Or at times refrain
There is such potential in them
They bring you close
And make you or the person special
Three words n eight letters
All of us have used them
Not using them can be deadly
Letting them not slip
Letting the times pass you by
Will make you hard hearted
Flowers will bloom in spring
What is the fun if don't use these
Soon winter will come
The words you wanted to say
Will now be
Three words n nine letters
I loved you.

Queues For the Moos In Their Shoes Now 1 2 3 4 5

An overweight lollipop in a heavy winter coat can shiver even on the most warmest of days. For shivers shimmer shaken soldiering shakers and therefore a logical partridge cannot be ignored at lunch. Seal spoke of truth to a wry smiling beach stone whose obligations was to wash the welks over and over in the tide. And all the while the atmospheric of the silken tulips were swaying in the fashion accustomed to. Timely tulips tapping training trees. And still the wobble of the wing from the lawnmower droned in the night air akin to a rotating scarf of a building. How fashionable it is to peel a pea then? Now all leap. Good. Ha a little bit of a bacon sandwich is saying hello to an egg and a slice of bread. Ha ha the silver dish is waving to the ninety thousand foot vase. Xxxxx coincidentally z z z z

B13-Poem 10 the Woman In My Heart

POEM 10 THE WOMAN IN MY HEART

I WAS LAYING THERE IN THE WINTER NIGHT WITH OUT HER.

I AM WITH OUT HER IN ALL THIS WINDS & GUSTY OUTSIDE.

THE LONG DAYS & NIGHT WITH OUT HER HERE WITH ME.

MY EYES WIDE SHUT IT WAS LIKE SOMETHING ELSE.

Tyrkia

Tyrkia
Bosporus 1955 the old tanker where I was
A galley boy had anchored waiting for orders
To proceed into the Black Sea rowing boat came alongside
Selling fez which was the “IN” by the seamen
They also sold sweet liqueurs which I drank, got drunk
And sick for the first time in my life I was 15, in the old
Days one had to grow up fast and howl with the dogs
The winter weather sunny I was awed by its Byzantine
Mystic just like a fairy tale story; I bought a Fez

And last time I was in Istanbul 30 years later on a ship
Where I was a cook my fall from officer grade had been
Painful, but I did go ashore not very far drank beer but
What I remember the best was packs of dogs by the quay
begging for food they knew I was a generous cook.

Love In a Name

Love in a Name.

Crystal Falls, I saw this name on the net
I could so easily fall in love with a woman like her
Her name has so many possibilities a song
Or a dramatic love story that ends in loss of love
She will forever be a song in my heart even if
She left me with a man with diamond studded yacht
Crystal Falls know diamonds are forever
Love is a sunny day in winter land.
Why did people, tell me she is an ambassador for
A club of people who like dining at fancy restaurants.

Her nom de guerre is Crystal Fall; her real name is
Johana Solar how can I love a name so unmusical
A vase dropped to the ground it was made of mineral
 Shards of broken love.

The giants appear
When winter skies clear
To combat the march
The battle is here
Bearing the lance
As the drive to advance
Through the war of the floor
And of four takes their stance
And only one thing
To acquire the Ring
Of the giant that triumphs
And calls himself King

Season End

Season end
Baseball bats will soon be quiet.
As football season takes a kick
Golf ball will be put away so a president can go to work.
Hockey sticks will soon hit the puck
And baseballs will go in the net.
The summer season is scheduled to end.
Hello winter let it begin.

Premium MemberNo Basketball

The playing starts each October in the fall.
But alas, this year there is no basketball.

Another season should have started for the NBA.
However, fans will not see their teams play.

From the Knickerbockers in New York, to the Lakers in LA,
will this competition start? Nobody can say.

As we approach winter, there is increasing doubt.
The owners have gotten together and locked the players out.

We will not see free throws or slam dunks today.
It appears there will be no playoffs in May.

With no basketball to see, where shall we go?
Perhaps a blizzard will come, and we will shovel snow.
