Maligaya Beauties

Lorraine

A gorgeous blend of white and brown
That made the day wipe my deep frown
A fine maiden with hair like silk
With skin so soft and white as milk

Cindy

Tallest beauty in all of classes
An appeal that caught the masses
Like an actress in cheese whiz commercial
Her presence made the day special

Jaycel

Her deepening cheeks caught my attention
A fine maiden that roused my affection
Like native beauty with brown skin
But golden smile from deep within

Roweliza

The sweetest smile I've ever seen
In all places I've ever been
But then she called me out of style
I simply answered her with smile

Anna May

The most precious gem of them all
Charm that could make any heart fall
A maiden with beauty and brain
Being with her stops the rain

*In dedication to the memories of yesteryears beauties of MNHS, 2 Apo and 2 Mayon, under Ms. J. Trinidad before poverty caused me to drop school and leave to seek new heights*

Oldest Living Treasure

She's the oldest living treasure that the world has ever seen;
A creator of arts, with her canvas, the human skin.
Her beauty outshines many younger generations.
Her charm could be the greatest among all her possessions.

She's a glimmer of the island of the far east, from the north.
She's a pleasant scene being craved, of tempting sort.
May it be someone from the west or the east,
everyone gladly comes to gather for her feast.

*For Apo Whang-Od, the oldest living tattoo artist in the world at 106, a living treasure, in celebration of my 500th poem in Soup.*

Day we said our final words,

Exactly two months ago,

And now your letter only stirs,

Regrets, cast a dark shadow,

Just so you know, I've moved on,

Only hoping you have done so too.

However, your letter is forlorn.

Nonetheless, I'm not missing you.

venice seemed a bit
moving today i'd wondered
over genova's coast

hardly a peek over masone's
entrance father was beneath himself
filled with bitter rage

it appeared my fetish for clark's
trouser's boosted family morale
i'd covered this endless romance

several months now
keeping watch over
my grandmother's

crest of identity a sullen logo
that read milan descending
aimously into corleone valley

weathered so cringing almost
with thee farewell findings
omerta standing in view

silence emerged an yet
i could only whisper his name
within this tiny village how different

we were how divided on appian way
our ancestor's balanced seperation
segrgation among italian

The Message

He lay in silent contemplation
His breath leaving the stead
The smile without the why
Ananda..stood by in dire
Oh Lord our guide
Where art thou ?
Apo Deepo Bhava
These words rang out stellar
The shell was cast away
This message for mankind to stay---

(Lord Buddha's penultimate moments--with distraught disciple, Ananda by his side- This parting message for the cosmos to dance with--"Apo deepo bhava",meaning " Be a light unto yourself"

things were different than before
my sudden out burst I'd yet to explain
I noticed small things like
a butterflies cocoon my sense's

were a bit altered as the smell
of a dandelion sent me soaring again
things were a bit different I suppose
my laughter seemed out of style

like an old pair of slacks from the seventies
a quiet calm aroused my suspicious mind
centered around trust issues
things were a bit different than before

I found myself in the middle of a closet
reading old letters from Apo addresses
clutching dog tags field jackets
and twisted boot straps while a celebration

seemed to be carried from the back yard
the sound of great cheer I held on to
a stainless steel tear one I couldn't ignore
that things were a bit different than before
