Your Birthday
I write upon your birthday, when it's always hard,
recalling celebrations in the past;
my memories are bitter-sweet -
I cannot love or hate,
and try to stop my daily thoughts from getting blue
(it's really time I got on with my life).
My thinking of your words will always twist the knife;
I can't forget the day you said, 'We're through.'
I have to blame it on my fate.
I didn't think you'd cheat;
and thought our love was strong enough to last.
No chance to send another birthday card!
I wonder if my heart will be forever scarred -
I watched it go from good to bad so fast;
but once you'd made my life complete,
(not like this sorry state,
when all I do these days is cry and think of you).
I must accept that now you're not my wife!
* how I used to feel...many years ago!
