Yo-Yo's and Hula Hoops

Yo-yo's and hula hoops We all ate our Campbell Soup Down our stairs went Mr. Slinky For dessert, Hostess Twinkies Lucky guys rode ten-speed racers Drank Seven-up with Kool-Aid Chasers After school, the Mickey Mouse Club With TV dinners for our grub The '50's seem so innocent now Can we get them back somehow?

You had me at the title, Gershon. I was a wiz with the hula hoop back in the day :)) A witty yet wistful poem that takes me back to my childhood home.. if only the world could be so simple now.. sigh.. Warmest wishes, my dear friend.. ~Susan

It all seemed so simple back then, didn't it?! Sigh... And now I see where we intersect. I held the official Chicago Hula Hoop Record on WCFL-AM radio 1000, the rock station in 1959, for about five minutes that year. lol. Here's to us two two gold-medalists! :) gw

I was reading about the inventor of the slinky yesterday! The story is fascinating, and I adore those Twinkies!

We walked uphill both ways/On those brighter snowy days (well at least my parents did) I took the bus both ways. I guess me and my parents had something in common ;)

My mother walked a 2 miles to school with holes in her shoes in the dead of winter -- She lived in Galveston, TX, and was the first to wear flip-flops. lol. Thanks, Kim.

For me, it was chocolate milk and Scooby Doo and after school specials - brings it back, childhood seems so innocent now (sigh)

Ever have Bosco in your milk? How about Ovaltine... And do kids even have childhoods now. I see 3 year-olds getting dragged to BLM protests. How crazy is that? :) gw

Hi Gershon. A sweet poem, sewn up nicely. I'm a closet 50's fan, (wear it) despite being born 80's.
