For the "Beatles 'Lay iI to Me' song Contest by Charles Messina

"Yesterday, seems so far away" and so different from today As we look in rose-colored mist where memories fondly exist Alas, the truth so often lies Hidden deeply in clouded skies Or, painted as a golden leaf A somewhat truth in Bas Relief

The subject of your poem is a favourite subject of mine Ann. Rosy recollections of times and places past tend to rise above (like the bas relief mentioned here perhaps?) the true realities of the past that lie forgotten or maybe misremembered and hidden in clouded skies. My take only Ann on a very enjoyable read. Thanks for sharing. Cheers - Gary

I really like the mist that covers your reflections in 'long-ago-and-far-away-ness.' ~ Gershon

Hi Gershon! I can remember hearing the Beatles singing it. I'm pretty sure it was written when Yoko and John had broken up for a short time. Thanks for commenting!

Pretty poem Ann. I actually have a poem title in my head that finds inspiration from a McCartney tune. We'll see if it develops

Thanks, Paula. "Yesterday" was one of my favorite Beatle songs.
