Words Better Left Unsaid

A word of praise for you dies on my lips Before I give birth to a despicable lie Words better left unspoken, a mere token Another phrase with soft sarcastic drips I swallow quickly and quietly with subtlety Not unlike the loud and nasty quips You have flung at me from time to time And I was supposed to overlook your snips Lest I upset you I swallowed many a reply A mere token, words better unspoken Time comes when I will have better scripts Written April 15, 2021 Using the ABRADACABRA rhyme format

We've all been there Milton. The hardest thing sometimes - as your poem alludes to beautifully - is not to respond to such quips and yes "swallow many a reply." Some people in life for one reason or another have a deep need for excessive attention and have to have the last word. Yours is a great poem delivered in a poetic format that requires excellent writing and thinking skills. Cheers - Gary

Silence is golden as the song says. It can be so frustrating keeping the mouth closed. Great last line. John

There are so many times I wish I could take back those nasty snips, it is hard to hold your tongue when your partner is saying cruel things, your word placements are superb, should do well in the contest!

That's so true, Michelle, and I hope the poem reminds everyone who reads it that "silence is golden"...sometimes.
