Wood
I am but driftwood afloat
once with my brothers we were a boat.
Now alone i am but wormwood,
bound together we are but damned.
A natural blockade to hold back the water
and side by side a mighty fortress.
A wondrous sight a grand forest
filled with delight.
To fall on a block doomed by an axe.
To be a structure covered in metal.
to be a ladle in a fire caressed kettle
A lone member of many for all purpose.
I propose a higher cause
to leave me standing to shade your walk
when you pause.
And glance at my brothers standing so tall.
