Quintain/Sicilian
A Quintain (Sicilian) poem rhymes the end of the first line with the last words in the third and fifth lines . The last word of the second line rhymes with the ending of the fourth line giving this style of poem a unique rhythm of a,b,a,b,a. There are no rules regarding meter or line length.
We're eternal souls created by God,
He has gifted us with both birth and death.
We aren't born perfect, and yet, we're not flawed,
it's not a sin to enjoy every breath,
to experience love or to be awed.
How you choose to live is left up to you,
God's not writing a list, checking it twice.
You were given free will, not chores to do,
Life's comprised of both the nasty and nice,
forgiveness is an eraser, not glue!
We waste time worrying about dying,
but as eternal souls, death's not the end.
We'll see God; that shouldn't be terrifying,
our faith teaches us as souls, we'll ascend,
though emotions do allow for crying.
An all-consuming shadow in the dark,
the Angel Of Death approaches unseen.
And shrouded in myth, it seems grim and stark
for its arrival is oft unforeseen,
and we're scared of extinguishing life's spark.
