Winter's Sheen
Frozen ponds bear winters sheen
Stark and bare, what once was green
Morning frosts bring winter's bite,
Now bitter days, and freezing nights.
The winter sun, no comfort brings
Too weak to thaw out winter's sting
Amongst this there is beauty though,
How lovely is new fallen snow.
How beautiful are icicles
Frozen cobwebs on a hedge,
Frosty patterned window panes
And snow upon the window ledge.
Who is there does not delight
In watching snowflakes fall at night,
As silently across the land
The snow queen opens up her hand.
For a time, all will be still
Captured each, by winter's chill.
Winter, she shall have her day
And for a while, she will hold sway.
