'winter In Canada'

Fall's golden beauty- faded and blew away the wild winds howled and clouds filled November with filigree snowflakes- that did not stay November was foreboding, and December was filled with days of white January, is a cold spell, February, well there will be a melt- a brief break from the dark the green grass will peek out the decayed leaves will lay dead- but, nature's rest is not quite finished yet again, the snow will come to us and frozen days once more will repeat- with ice, and drifts to climb winter came early to the city, woods and streams with frozen fingers wrapping tight yet, in the bare frozen trees of winter tiny sparrows still sing and squirrels scamper up the tree trunks- their nests lined with my outdoor rug today, delicate snowflakes taps on my window- melting into raindrops yet, it is still frigid winter in Canada- _________________________________ January 11, 2020 - Repost March 8, 2021 Poetry/Free Verse/'Winter in Canada' Copyright Protected, ID 03-1334-898-08 All Rights Reserved, 2021, Constance La France Submitted to the Standard contest, All Your (Mar 9) sponsor, Brian Strand, Judged 03/09/2021 First Place

Delicate and pretty. "yet, in the bare frozen trees of winter tiny sparrows still sing and squirrels scamper up the tree trunks-" This would have been more than enough. Congrats on the win!

Beautiful images of winter, Constance. It looks like winter is fading away, here in Maryland. Amazing how some birds stick around no matter how cold it gets.

Vijay, thank you for the beautiful, Winter is fading here in Canada but very slowly, how the birds survive in sub zero weather here amazes me too, especially those tiny chickadees _Constance

We never know when snow will return. Sometimes we hear of snowstorms in May. I'm sorry it's still so cold by you, but the singing sparrows and scampering squirrels are a great reminder that spring is on the way! Best wishes for a win in Brian's contest. Hugs, Carolyn
