Wind Song, With Birds
The wind
howled ice-cold, clear-sky
lullabies
and awoke the moon,
who gazed, heavy-lidded,
at the stars around her
Leaves and dust
danced sambas and pirouetted
along the desert's river,
who was shivering uncontrollably
while midnight birds
struggled to fly upstream
against the manic,
stinging, musical currents
of turbulence and wonder
