Will She Give Us Relief
masks a scarf or napkins of cloth
6 feet away a break this week from
food and meds even life's true necessities
hospitals filled, nurses begging for safety
families looking at death far away in their grief
what I can forgo are the ever changing
incoherent words of the “commander in chief?”
the intelligence and concern of the medical
world, the scientists, the doctors, the media’s
medical journalists there I can find
a true unhappy type of relief
And finally, finally there is the struggle
for breath, the struggle for the heart's beat
the human world fights for life as mother earth
sends warnings that all is not well and
we cannot continue to ignore the balance
she creates -- if we do what we must and
treat her with respect, perhaps then
she will give us some release.
