Why Do Poets Do It

Mix the meters Color the cadence Intermingle the breaks of line Torture the iambs Scent the flowers Tint the edges of sunrise Mellow the moonbeams Offer an invitation A subtle “come hither” Of mystery Slowly close the door As you are drawn Into inky shadows Left alone To fathom The cut, fit and drape Of garments Woven with words Stitched with secrets John G. Most original. We mostly murder classical poetry, here because we don’t know it, nor how beautifil it is Worse….we label forms incorrectly. Few here have the integrity to be accurate to form. Me, too….much easier to write free verse. Ee Cummings could. We can fool and tickle each other, sure. Writing words on paper is not poetry. It is WORDETRY. Wish I had the cajones to call myself a poet after five years, I don’t deserve that name, honestly…Pangie

We write uneven syllables in Sonnets, too many in Haiku, and then pretend it was just the temporary glitch of a poet. We do it because we are driven to capture our thoughts. Yours resonate.
