Who Gets To Decide What Madness Is

Who gets to decide what madness is? The 2-year-old who is pitching a fit about not getting a second donut Or a diabolical serial killer who is stalking his newest potential victim? Who gets to decide what sadness is? The 6-year-old whose Daddy just ran off with the neighbor lady? Or the 67-year-old woman who always wanted to find a husband, but did not? What about happiness? Disappointment? Anger? Joyfulness? Humiliation? Despair? Who gets to decide? Who?

Thank you Mike. My main goal in life besides sharing love, is promoting thinking, so I am wild with happy about your comment.

The title of this reminded me of two of my dear friends who were committed to mental institutions when they were teenagers... and it turned out they weren't crazy after all. A terrifying thing to have your sanity decided on by the wrong person (or people)... Thought-provoking write.

those women's institutions weren't so long ago...girls who would likely not marry (for whatever reason a family burden; eg. learning disability) often wound up there...strange things happen in time

Very wise of you! I've found that often there are other factors at play (hidden abuse, autism, etc...), and the person is reacting very logically to issues & situations we can't see!

I never take the word of anyone. People who hear voices are crazy? Not true. Sometimes they are hearing their soul, just because others cannot, does not make it any less true or crazy in any way. I have believed in things others do not for a long, long time.

Tough questions these, Caren, and I have no answers. I sometimes compare modern life to a managerie of untamable animals.Only a fool dares go inside to try to tame them. Let them be, they often devoure each other. Thanks for the stop by. Best to you. / M

well cross my fingers and close my eyes, scratch my...and my best guess : ) would be: 'not they' means 'you, me, us, we' decide...that is why we write
