Where Orchids Dream

I was a vibrant vanda thriving
  in a wondrous place ~where orchids dream~
and you were a wandering gardener.
Each day you came around
                  persistent as a bee
   murmuring flattering words to me
         until at last . . .
you decided to pluck me up.

No longer was I simply captured
                    by your gaze.
My precious petals then lay open
               in your hands.
  You could feel my heartbeat
            for we became as one,
                      and ~trapped in your pulse~
I could read the poetry that palpitated
inside your strange but fertile mind.
Mesmerized was I, yet I also knew
                                        I tantalized you.
For a time, our story was not that of
                           garden variety.
You were my sun, but what was I to you?
Many were the other exotic flowers
                                   of your fantasies.

Caressed and kissed by you,
I was at first in bliss
       but passion is ephemeral,
and what you took for love was something
that I grew to see as something else and
           overbearing -
later on . . . even as perverse.
As you pressed my pretty petals to you,
      my fragrant essence you were
               snuffing…. OUT
No longer did I even want to know you.

Freed from you now,
              I’m restored to normalcy,
a part of me aware that
~I am the asylum of your ache~
                            even today.
But ~I taste your truth~ of toxicity
a nasty reality when laid bare
       and which at long last
         I SPAT OUT
you can have your putrid poems.
                 They are now
                      for me
              ~verses in ash~

Andrea, you have become the #1 romance poetess with numerous top wins in these romance contests! You are the star bloom of his garden and staring in him, how clever and most refreshing your undivided attention to detail of a sure romance taking place, one that perhaps didn't make much sense, what a realization! Congratulations on your first place! Delighted for you~ Faving

Thanks so much. Do you remember my story about the Brazilian man when I was young. I got the gardener idea years ago when I wrote another poem likening myself to a blue rose and he to a careless gardener. I will have to look up the name of that poem buried somewhere in my oldies so you can read it and tell me what you think of it

It actually is mostly a true story that has been exaggerated. How astute of you

"As you pressed my pretty petals to you, my fragrant essence you were snuffing…. OUT". In many toxic relationships, this realization comes quite late. By then it is beyond redemption. Beautiful poem dear Andrea incorporating all given lines in appropriate places.

Ouch! Well said, but I am not going to begin to pry as to the reason for this write. Some hurt should be respected as personal...poetry can heal as well. The heart is also a warrior as you say.

I haven't seen the contest, but it seems to me that this one is a good contender. Way to go. I like the way you chose the orchard as a metaphor for your beauty and love. Sara K.

Well composed prose from the contests prompts. Which I am sure you will enter. The way you took this was truly inspired.

This tale of love (well, not really love, it turns out) had me captivated. It seemed so hopeful at first but looks like it turned into something awful - anyway, nicely written. Life does work out that way sometimes.
