Heaven and hell, both lie within We can choose love or can choose sin By employing bestowed free will We are the thoughts we ourselves spin Fears and desires, the seeds we till Misaligned from love, soul falls ill As we engage in needless strife Free only when our heart is still Ego wielding a butcher’s knife Heeds not cadence of love bliss rife Plunging headlong in a dark realm Distanced from true purpose of life With love no longer at the helm Dark fears and desires overwhelm By our own hand we create hell We’re to blame; who may we condemn Even as hell sounds it’s death knell If we so choose, all can be well Simply shifting from head to heart Where gong of truth sounds as love’s bell Hell’s when estranged souls stand apart Heaven’s ours adding love to cart We thus are where we choose to be Let God guide the life course we chart 06-March-2023 Hell Poetry Contest Sponsor: Robert James Liguori

A beautiful poem, Seeker. I agree that we create our own hell. I love these two lines, especially: "By employing bestowed free will, we are the thoughts ourselves spin..." Congratulations!

Such a lovely and meaningful poem written in your unique well rhymed and effortless style, dear Seeker friend. Your poem exemplifies the same thought of Milton in his Paradise Lost....'The mind is its own place, and in itself can make a heaven of hell, a hell of heaven..” Into my FAVE
