Originally completed for a different contest but since it was closed entered into the Elegy contest because it fits both.

When Summer is gone along with substantial flowers, a lingering memory, I wonder “were you here at all?” It will only be, in each new Spring reviving, that the iris near the tear duct blooms. When Summer is gone and leaves float downstream blains renew with a chill in the air, and the maples and oaks lose their grief stricken hues. When Summer is gone, that means Spring too, then Fall is the midpoint so far from you, as the years yield their acorn pelts I pumpkin-kiss and miss you. When Summer is gone and the “I love you,” is silent, in the deep drifts of the Winter white blanket, still I hear your motherly voice in the wind, emphatically reap your snowdrop smile.

Quite beauteous poem, Kim. I have many fond memories of past summers, so I'm always a little sad when summer departs. Great writing. Blessings xox

"It will only be, in each new Spring reviving, that the iris near the tear duct blooms." -- Wow, great line! "as the years yield their acorn pelts I pumpkin-kiss and miss you." In the shimmer of stream, we imagine a fond countenance smiling back -- love has highs and depths yet to fathom. Subject only briefly to a life of seasons.

Hey Kim MY friend, i was happy to see your comment. Have fallen behind so much that it is too late to repair my folly, but as our work is our bread and butter i cannot let it suffer. Such a dilemma I am in and so stressed that i am not answering my good friends that I feel I'm useless on this site that I thought of leaving but the thought of leaving you all behind is awful and depressing. Your write is so touching and your clever wit is unsurpassed in some of your poems. Hugs Jenn.

"still I hear your motherly voice in the wind, emphatically reap your snowdrop smile." This is a touching and beautiful poem. There is a trace of deep melancholy and longing over the loss of a loved one. May your mother's sweet love wrap you in the chills of winter. Your poem is so soulful and I can easily relate. All the Best in the contest, sweet Kim. Hugs.
