When Silence Speaks

Amidst cruelty, bigotry, and hate,
silence amplifies a crocodile tear.
The sound silence makes can influence fate;
it speaks loudest in the presence of fear.
You observe a drunk abusing his wife,
sizing you up; he glares as you pass by.
But you stay silent, ignoring her strife;
and your silence speaks volumes to that guy.
Silence is often noticeably heard;
whenever atrocities get ignored.
It lends its approval to the absurd;
a form of compliance we can't afford.
Silence speaks for us when we live in fear,
and what it says is always loud and clear.
