What's In a Name Fv
As a child I began hearing about a little
town in the next county with an interesting
name—the same as my surname.
I gave that fact no more thought until I began
teaching in that town years later. A few years later,
my daughter and I moved there.
One day I was talking with the town’s historian,
who had written books and articles about the town.
To my surprise, I learned her maiden name and mine
were the same.
I shared a little classroom story with her:
“I have told my kids they’d better respect me because I’m
a direct descendant of the founder of this town!”
Then I laughed.
She said, “You are, and so am I.”
She provided me with proof! I also bought her book
and have done enough research of my own to feel
somewhat of a connection to this man, founder of
the town I have now happily lived in for three decades.
