What If Later Never Comes
You know I love it if
I set it aside to enjoy later
What am I saving for tomorrow you ask
And more importantly why
Why save things for another time
What if there is no next time
I have drawers filled with special somethings
Set aside for a close or distant future
Lured to believe tomorrow may
Be more special than today
Another lie caught in a loop
What if later never comes
Yesterday’s tomorrow is totally today
And isn’t it the only day that matters
Memories of longing and having to do without
Unhealed scars rise to the surface
My distant past not so distant after all
Failing to move with the times
Still living in the past
Lesson in the learning of he who wins
Now has the empty drawer of
Delays, what-ifs and for-laters
