What Does Love Even Mean? I never understood how two people can stop loving each other. How can you mean something one day, and take it back the next? Maybe that’s how love is. Maybe it is fighting every night till two a.m. and waking up the next morning as if everything were fine— even though it never was. Maybe it is lying to your children that everything will be okay and that the echoed screams they heard must have been a nightmare— even though they weren’t. Maybe it is hurting the people you once said you loved— even though you don’t love them anymore. Maybe it is kicking out the one you thought you loved— even though it may not be true. Maybe it is leaving your kids behind filled with tears in their eyes— even though it isn’t right. Maybe love is all these cruel things. But how can someone as much as a seven-year-old understand the meaning of love when they are left with this image for the rest of their life? Maybe they will never truly understand what it means to love someone.
