We Understand Each Other

I can be silly and stupid and dumb And she has my back Defending my idiocy to each any and all I can be mean and say hurtful things And she understands I am cranky because I am tired or in pain I can be myself when I am with her Knowing she will not be pushed away Because she loves me, and I love her And when she is silly and stupid and dumb I have her back Defending her idiocy to each, any and all And when she is mean and says hurtful things I understand She is cranky because she is tired or in pain We have been friends for over fifty years There is no one I can laugh harder with Because we have a history One of us can just say one word And the other turns into a hyena Laughing in spite of everything else When we are together We turn into five year olds again The ones who met in kindergarten in 1957. There is nothing as rejuvenating As invigorating Or as liberating as a best friend for life.

I absolutely loved this, Caren! I, too, have a friend that I've known my whole life and who I'd go to the ends of the Earth for. You explained it in a matter of stanzas. Thank you.
