We Are All Equal Except

We are all equal Except don’t drive when black. We’ll get you It’s our right We are all equal Except if you wear a hoodie We suspect you are a thug Unless you are white We are all equal Except when we see your skin color and immediately remember Every person we ever saw who wronged us and was your color Wait a second. What if we never met anyone with your skin color? How can we judge you? Let me Google this.

Hey, Caren. I used to forbid -- forbid! -- my all-white, all-Jewish all-male high school students to wear hoodies, even in daytime, even in winter. Whatever else it may be, a hoodie is also a known gang symbol. Wear it at own your own risk. I can't tell you how many parents thanked me... There are many sensible alternatives to hoodies. Why be defiant?! By the way, just as blacks take BIG risks driving in white neighborhoods, the reverse is equally (if not MORE!!) true. ~ Just sayin'

I have to tell you this and you will laugh. The last school where I worked - I used to dress up. I soon discovered I did not "fit in" at all. All of the teachers and the principal wore hoodies, so for four years I wore a hoodie to school to teach. This year I am at two new schools. One of them dresses up, and so I am. Friday is dress down day at my one-day-a-week-on-Friday school, and we wear hoodies or pajamas. You just never know.

Ah, that's a big problem, Caren. This business of judging...especially by color of skin! I hate bigotry and prejudice because of skin color or sexual identity or nationality or any other reason you can think of. It's sickening.

My cousin is black; I am supposedly white. I am actually pink and spotted due to age, but pink polka dotted confuses people, and she is actually caramel. The kids at school used to argue we could not be cousins because of our skin colors. I said "We are spiritual cousins". This fixed everything. After a bit they were saying "Where is your cousin?" Just like the principal.

The world becomes a better place when we get to know our fellow man, when we love those around us, listen to their stories, let them comfort us and we comfort them. There is no them and us...just people waiting to become friends. Let their be peace on earth...we know it will only be when heaven arrives. God bless!

We are all ONE. As soon as we realize this, the world has WON. I think we are here to love each other and figure this out.
