Walking Softly
Walking softly
Walking softly,
I wander about trying to
hide in the crowd of faces
that appear normal
but none that I recognize
Fearful of making a mistake,
I shy away from smiling,
worried about bringing undo
and unwanted attention to myself
(as if that would happen anyway)
Balancing between the why
and how on a narrow ledge,
careful not to slip
causing the poetic ripples
to move in a backwards motion
For if so, the deafening silence
would find me and
take me to that place
where hearts break
and friends leave
So here I am,
worried that it has happened
nervous about tomorrow
hiding amongst the masses,
walking softly… away
