Waiting For the Spring

In virgin fertile soil I sow the seed of my heart In my life’s front yard I kept lush green ever Even under the sun of summer. Rain came and when it went Told me how to nurture The sapling of the heart Growing like love unperceived yet A rose plant of desire. In spring the roses bloomed With the color of my blood Placing the fragrance on the wings Of the humming bird I became Singing in the silence of your sky. The wild desert storm came then From the grey horizon unknown The dusty gale flattened the plant The roses landed on the ground The puckered petals rolled out Dislodged from the fold of my heart. I became a rootless mute poet In the silence of the torn heart For the distant spring I wait.
