The deer always seem to come out in the open in early morning and dusk. Seeing such a sight in the "morning mist" would be a treat. But I'm thinking man must be approaching if she's hearing "footsteps on dry leaves." Awesome imagery and suspense at the end. Great haiku, LNC. Love, Carolyn

We have plenty of white tailed deer here in southern New Jersey. Your haiku describes them beautifully in so few words.
