Line 3 influenced by "Do not go gentle into that good night", a poem in the form of a villanelle by Welsh poet Dylan Thomas.

Vincent Willem Van Gogh

Dutch post-impressionist Vincent Willem Van Gogh
Misunderstood genius as we all know
Did not go gently into his starry, silent night
Posthumously famous in his own right

Sorry that he couldn't see the flame of his fame that came only posthumously to him. Because of his mental derailment, he was sadly misunderstood while living ! A great tribute to a prodigious icon of art !

Thank you, Andrea. You might think this weird of me to mention, but Doctor Who, Season 5, Episode 10, “Vincent and the Doctor” is exceptional in its depiction of Vincent’s mental health issues and the need to be patient and understanding with those who are afflicted by it. Great episode even if you’re not into the Doctor :)

Loved his brother Theo, buried together. Left us with his work, which he painted over a period of only ten years. Love your insightful clerihew!

Thank you, Anaya. I didn’t know about Theo, so thank you for that. Theo’s financial and emotional support gave Vincent the freedom to pursue his art. Way to go, Theo!
