Views of You

Now, when the day is cool and new While fragile light is still allowed My paper captures views of you Your eyes, the shape of shifting clouds While fragile light is still allowed I sketch your hair as blooming trees Your eyes, the shape of shifting clouds As rain replenishes the seas I sketch your hair as blooming trees Noting beauty by scar’s contrast As rain replenishes the seas Like amulets from journeys past Noting beauty by scar’s contrast Where mirrors stand, fractured and bent Like amulets from journeys past With all the futures you present Where mirrors stand, fractured and bent My paper captures views of you With all the futures you present Now, when the day is cool and new. 5/16/22 Poem of the Day 5/18/22 Favorite Poem from the first half of 2022 contest First Place

Back to read this wonder again. I'm faving it to read often. I love "I sketch your hair as blooming trees..." Also, I wasn't familiar with Pantoum, but now think it's a beautiful form.

Congratulations Michelle. Wonderfully penned. I especially like "scar...like souvenirs of the past." You have such a delightful way of making words paint pictures in imagery. So happy to see this on the winners list! Blessings to you my friend. Understand you are dusting off the ark in the great north woods.

This poem is novel and the lines are made in such a way, we feel a puzzle present in the structure. The poet has rhymed technically to mesmerize us magically!

I've written quite a few Pantoums and this one is as perfect as they come. The imagery is delightful as well. The words flow so gracefully, a job well done.

My artistry sibling, I am in agreement with Connie that this poem belongs in a pantoum textbook to study when one is courageous enough to pursue writing in this challenging form. I've tried only a few and know that a line that works well in one stanza doesn't necessarily mesh with the next. The pairing of "Your eyes, the shape of shifting clouds / As rain replenishes the seas" is nature, artistry, and romance coalesced into a stunning poetic statement. Again, "Like souvenirs from journeys past / With all the futures you present", is a delightful expression of committed love and the future arc it enables. Beautiful, a poem to be revisited and re-enjoyed. Hearty congrats for the deserving POTD ~ John

It sometimes takes fine tuning with a word or two to make it flow evenly from one stanza to the next, but I am sure you have done some great ones, I will have to search them out! Thank you as always, artistry bro :)

You pieced this together so nicely. Sometimes it's hard for these to flow, but this is so natural. I love the vision you gave of sketching their hair as blooming trees.
