Inspired by Unseeking Seeker's and Tania's blogs on the subject of AI on soup 6/23/25

Your cheating ways, you've sunk so low, to win contests - that isn't right. You've used AI, few sponsors know Your cheating ways MY ideas form, it’s time to write, (Unlike AI, my brain is slow) When poem’s done, I feel delight! But AI wins, it's quite a blow It's unfair and I feel uptight We're NOT blind sheep, I want to show Your cheating ways

Jan, love the comparison to dishwashing and art. Indeed, we celebrate creativity here. Why would someone plagiarize or use AI to write on a site like this where contributions are voluntary? I can only come up with 3 possibilities. 1-they are sick for attention, 2-they hate us and are trying to destroy our community of art, or 3-they have both conditions. At least we know you are the real thing!! Smiles!

I love your possibilities and its definitely all 3! It's been so sad to see the site deteriorate but at least the blatant plagiarism seems to have been dealt with now:-(

Jan, so well penned. I'm saddened by the state of the soup these days with the many rotten ingredients of AI and plagiarism. The soup it tasting toxic. I liked your poem so much, this is my second comment. :)

Thanks Tania, yes I agree the environment is toxic and to see such blatant plagerism used , and it saddens me to see the use of AI on an almost daily basis by some people - can't call them poets because they are cheaters! hugs Jan xx

Jan, as a sponsor, you might agree that having AI-generated poems shoved in one's face so to speak by some contest entries, leave a bad taste. I don't think remorse is even remotely in their EQ skillset, no more than those who seems to plagiarise seemingly without impunity. I started my "naughty list" 2 years ago, only to be confirmed by the AI-checkers when they became available. Due to a dispute of a poem not placing (and later tweeked), I screenshot every contest entry of mine received.

lol I love the AI brain syndrome comment, it really made me chuckle. I think more and more sponsors are becoming aware of who uses AI and checking for it - but sadly not in a second chance contest when the poem hadn't placed first time round as its 100% Ai. noticing a lot of dramatic changes in style of poets who have been absent for a while too.. and dont get me started on plagiarism!

On a lighter note: I'm afraid that some people have been exposed to AI-generated poetry for so long that they have developed "AI-brain syndrome" - the result is that the AI Checkers do not pick it up as being AI-generated as it is so poor that it wouldn't even own it ... :)

I'd love it if AI could do my laundry and dishes, but that's all. Good piece, Jan.

AI is a poet deceiving folk they wrote the poem when all they did was ask a bot to do it and hope no one notices, there is no excuse for Plagiarism which is a crime of theft of another person's work and once alerted, it must be dealt with quickly by admin. hugs jan xx

- AI "winners" bask in the glory, as long as they don't "get discovered" ... - "to be caught red-handed", is an expression in Norway ... - If AI is 100% X 3 ... contest sponsor should "blacklist" them (preferably with full username) - Contest rules say NO to AI ... !!! - This is really dirty laundry, Jan - hugs

AI checkers are not entirely accurate all the time BUT there are those who persistently post poems that test on 3 checkers. Plagiarism is against the rules to Anne-Lise but that too has been ignored recently and theft of poems is a crime whereas AI is simply a bot doing the work a person claims is theirs - its sad on so many levels:-( hugs Jan xx

Jan, a great poem. it's such a shame people are using AI and plagiarism just to win contests or seek attention. Not sure how it really makes them feel good inside, since it's all deceitful. No "delight". -hugs

agreed Tania, I feel delight knowing i write every word,I dont know what drives folk to deceive using AI or plagiarism but admin need to deal with it, especially the plagiarism - there is no excuse for stealing the work of another poet:-( hugs Jan xx

I haven’t really been following this on the Soup, Jan, but I think it’s just awful for someone to use AI to write a poem and then claim it as his/her own! You’ve said it very well here. I guess it goes along with all the other disgusting behavior that has somehow started to seem “normal” and acceptable. Bah!

AI is one issue plagiarism on soup is a whole different ball game . With Ai you folk are pretending they wrote when all they did was press a button, plagiarism is theft of the work of another poet and it must be dealt with by admin:-( hugs Jan xx

I'm not sure I've ever written a roundel, Jan. I'm trying to catch up on comments and responses before I head back to the hospital in the morning. Hugs and love to ya, Chick.

There is a sense of delight when we complete a poem using our brains, but cheaters take the easy way out

I agree with your every word Joseph. I also wonder what a plagiariser feels when a poem is posted which is stolen from another poet - Does guilt come into it - though I very much doubt it from what I have seen in 10 yrs on soup. Sending a massive thank you for introducing me to this form, i have rarely written it until your contest:-) hugs Jan xx
