Unspooling Larger Than Life
a flicker, then form
shadows breathing light
onto a stretched canvas
stories unspooling
larger than life
yet somehow mirroring
the cramped spaces of our hearts
a hero's jawline, sharp
a tear tracing a painted cheek
emotions amplified, distilled
a collective sigh in the dark
we sit, suspended
believing for a fragile hour
in impossible loves
in justice served with a final shot
the reel spins on
capturing moments that never were
or perhaps were, intensely
in someone else's imagined world
and when the lights come up
the spell breaks
but a residue lingers
a question in the way we see
the mundane street outside
now framed, somehow
with a cinematic edge.
