Unnoticed
Flowers sometimes grow in cracks
Or vacant lots or railroad tracks
Or mountain paths where no one hikes
Or hidden where no sunlight strikes.
So, too, a poem, its words composed
And set upon the world, exposed
To passers-by who might peruse
And even comment, if they choose…
Or walk away without a glance,
Without the time to take a chance
On opening their busy eyes
To what could be a real surprise.
For poets’s phrase or flower’s bloom
Might shine a light into the gloom.
