Unintended Consequences
You never know when the unresolved past
will come back and bite you in the heart.
The results of innocent acts will last
past shelf life in the emotional mart.
Greetings not made, curt remark to a child,
a group's laughter at the expense of one,
humorous fabled memories that would
shatter thoughts of what another has done.
We are monstrous to others as we hide
in our mind constructs of what the world's about.
And when we find shared memories don't jibe,
wagons circle to protect, not talk out.
Each fights to guard the memory's ego.
It's all that we have left to hang onto.
