Under the Rose Bush
He had a house, but he abandoned it.
He had an ex-wife who lived still
In the house he abandoned.
The bones of his last dog
are under an English rose bush.
His son sends pictures and video chats.
Grandchildren dance and sing.
His past wife phones him.
If the dogs bones could speak
they would no doubt ask where he was?
He would say – he was far a way
yet there is an acre of land for you
should you return as another dog
to Ohio.
Tail bones would wag.
Former spouse and son
both phone him at the same time
alas he is out walking memories
on a 3,000 mile leash.
