Two Week Check Ups

Two Week Check Ups ( for all the caregivers and people they are giving care to ) Her eyes danced fire, we all caught the flame. Nothing made sense. even now looking back we are still simmering. Her legs were little sticks, running. we all chased after her at our own pace. Everybody in this house was racing. Even now, we are still driving on a full tank of hope. Her dreams were nightmares. We stayed awake all night fighting them with her but not for her. Nothing was a comfort more than confusion when the memories were absent. Even now that the doctors became the family or the family became the doctors. Her appointments are three times a week. We all heard the diagnosis, progress, expectations and I don’t know’s. Everything was an accomplishment we checked off at check ups. Even now as we get out of the car and watch her go in the waiting room, knowing it could be the first last time before the breakthrough, or breakdown. Her eyes danced fire, we all caught the flame, nothing made sense. we all move close to her heat and enjoy its warmth, ashamed a little at the taking, from the one who is already taking on too much. Nothing is promised for us, for them or for her, even now as we wait, expecting, more time.
