Should I look up, I see it all clearly The route, the goal, the possibilities To be cradled and lie on fluffy pillows Or perhaps impossible dreams Then there's the drowning Oh how I'll drown if I leave the shore From here I can't be sure what's three dimensional There may be no comfort whatsoever in 2D The green night ocean has its own allure Jade like, perhaps it's envy corrupting my vision Step one, step two, but it begins to narrow I'm too conscious of peril to be there Then rational thought kicks in I'm making no sense with these dreams But everyone gazes at the moon and dreams Why shouldn't I allow myself those dreams? Maybe I'm seeing it all wrong Perhaps even the moon is tethered There are gaps in the blackness of the sky Which never swallows me up And a light comes from somewhere Casts red on the cloud, danger It's mesmerising to look out to sea But it's all rules and full of don'ts Let me forget again I don't need this sky
