Turtle is patient, Never frantically rushing; And patience is a virtue. Virtuous turtle, Has survived many ages; Descendant of dinosaurs; Camper on his back; Turtle does not travel light; Still, he will always arrive.

Living on a farm 500km inland from the coast its unusual but not uncommon to see the odd turtle migrate between dams in the heat of summer.... they need all the protection they can get. Nice write.

Yes, too many are flattened by vehicles way too often. Turtles are one of my favorite creatures. Thanks for stopping by to read and comment.

I wouldn't one a turtle for a pet though I do admire them. I wonder what it's like to be sandwiched between two calciferous shells? I'd feel claustrophobic. I too have written several humorous poems on this creature. Also, I am an egyptian history buff and have written about the cats they mummified. Many thanks for the stop by. BTW I am a no-gluten eater. Best to you in your writing endeavors. / M

Thank you so much, Maurice; am glad you stopped by to read and comment on my poetry. I would be claustrophobic, as well; I don't know how they live in those things. I guess maybe, having known no other way of life, perhaps they're find with the situation. Anyway, I'm going to have go read through more of your work; love it.

Thanks, I've always loved turtles; raised them as pets when I was growing up. They are one of the most patient beings on Earth.

Turtles are wonxerful animals and they have a personality that is so sweet. My daughter has raised a tiny turtle who has grown to the size of a basket ball and he will eat from her hand and keeps her lawn mowed! I enjoyed your lovely tribute to the turtle. : )

Thank you, Connie; some do grow huge. As a child, I was taken to a small petting zoo and they gave rides to children on some of the animals. I recall riding the shell of what they said was a 40 yr. old turtle; still it moved rather well with my 5 yr old weight and I recall petting it on the head. Now, I feel badly that those ancient beings had to lug kids around all day; back then, it was perfectly normal to give rides at zoos.

Many thanks to you, Sara; I enjoy your work as well. Yes, it's heartbreaking when they get run over; I guess it's part of life today. One hopes they passed quickly enough to feel no pain.
