Truth Hurts
It’s a sudden feeling that reaches deep within
A heaviness, a pain that is not released easily
Most often, it is the truth that we want…
Until, it lands to shake the core of who we are
Stirring a mixture of questions, doubts, fears
Until, all these things can build a wall of defense
A shutdown that prevents desire to express feelings
It hurts too much, the risk is burning too high
Not again, not again
There were too many times of crushing betrayal
With only a glimpse of trust left to exist at all
There were too many times of presenting true self
Only to find out someone will not maintain respect
Only to learn there is not acceptance of authenticity
Then the world changes fast, running is the only option
Alone again, in some safe place, wherever it may be
Because truth can hurt, but the truth must be told
