A mother holds her infant to her breast,
snuggled safely; its fears are laid to rest.
A primal link bonds a mother and child,
a sharing of hearts, instinctive and wild.
A soldier huddles in the stench of death
determined to fight to his final breath.
For lives count on his bravery today,
and despite his fears, he's resigned to stay.
A dad encourages his toddler son,
holding his hands as that first step is won.
And with arms outstretched, he coaches him on
as he stumbles forth, inhibitions gone.
A virgin bride feeling anxious inside
approaches temptations she's long denied.
And yet, in bed, she surrenders her will
to her husband and love's intimate thrill.
A common thread stitches these souls in place,
a natural bond time cannot erase.
Believe what you will; and think what you must,
but the human soul has evolved on trust.
