True Story That Is Umbelievable

I can not imagine what this Officer in New York City was thinking at the time of this Parking Violation. You would think when an officer writes a Parking Violation, he or she would interact with the Driver who is being ticketed. Well that is not the case in this incident. The Officer approached the vehicle and noticed the vehicle was parked in a No Parking Zone. He approached the vehicle from behind and wrote down the License Plate of the vehicle. The person inside the vehicle was silent, just sitting there. He didn't say a word. I wonder what the Officer was thinking when the ticketed person didn't give him an excuse, to try and persuade the Officer not to give him the Citation. Well the Officer wrote the ticket and placed the ticket on his dashboard, and walked away, got into his Patrol Car and left.
A day or two later the Officers Commanding Officer called him into his office. He asked him, " did you issue a ticket several days ago to a Mr Rappoid, for Illegal Parking at such and such a time?" The Officer said," let me check my notes." He checked his notes and said, "yes." The Commanding Officer asked him, "You didn't notice anything in particular with Mr Rappoid?" The Officer asks his Commander, "Why?" His Commander responded, with a loud and angry voice. "Well because at the time you gave Mr Rappoid the ticket Rigor Mortis had set in and he was sitting Up and he was dead!" "Your the first Officer I know, that has written a Parking Citation to a Dead man, sitting dead in his Vehicle!"

Wow Michael, that's unbelievable, I thought our police were bad enough, but that takes some beating.

Hi Michael, this is so hard to believe. What kind of training did this guy get? Maybe I am strange but I did give a giggle at the end, although it was totally imbicilic. All he had to do was look, most officers would have paid attention. The reality is stranger than fiction. Have a wonderful evening ..... Mike.

Yes Mike it really happened and I can see someone chuckling because although it is sad someone passed. The flip side is how can someone not notice the obvious. Your comment I love Mike thanks for the visit...

Would you believe it? Ann, it happened in NYC. Sometimes truth is stranger than fiction. This is a case where it fits this narrative. Thank you for your visit Ann. Enjoy your weekend and thanks for stopping by with your comment... God bless you...

I am not doubting the veracity of this narrative, but I find it hard to believe that there are these types of officers in the police force! It's possible that that man's life could have been saved... Regards // paul

Unbelievable Michael, an Officer with a heart would have at least tried asking the man why he’d parked in a No Parking Zone, then he’d have known the poor man was dead and there was no need to give him a Parking Citation owing to the man’s situation. You told the true story well… Blessings, Belle

Love it! The least the officer could do, is pay the citation for the poor, perhaps wandering soul--needing to tie up ends before his chariot-flight. Poor guys and gals of the N.Y.P.D., are overworked and underpaid for the garbage they must put up with, while trying to do a righteous job.

So sad and unbelievable..... ! Men are so distanced and each one does his duty in a mechanical way. No body has time to see if his neighbor or the man next to him is dead or alive....!

An incredible story, and quite sad! I've never heard of a ticket being issued without verbal interaction, when the person is present. Have a good week, Evelyn

Unbelievable indeed! Just another incident for them? A touch of humanity goes a long way. I feel the officer regrets now. A story well told--it pains to know that the man was dead.

Truth is often stranger than fiction, as they say... I can imagine several reasons for the officer's actions, however. One of them might be 'sheer fear.' Easier to text someone his ticket, actually. Police are being hunted down in this nation by civilians and criminals alike, who know they can get away with murder in many municipalities... C'est la vie. Thanks for sharing this, Michael.

Incredible! It's hard to believe he wouldn't have inquired of the man why he was sitting in his car in a No Parking Zone! Then, of course, he might have discovered the situation. I suppose honest mistakes are made, but this one begs incredulity!

Milton it is mind boggling how you don't realize someone is in that state when your looking at them and not seeing any kind of response. I believe it is time for this officer to retire, I try to be compassionate but it is really difficult. He if noticed could have informed Mr Rappoids family members. Truth is stranger then fiction sometimes and this is one of the times. Have a wonderful Fathers day Milton and God bless you and your family...
