Hill sides Sides at all Distances Perspectives skew them Maybe I'm sat here looking out Or sat within imagining out Because out is where we drift I want to be carried away But I'm the part that lingers Like the train smoke Contained so beautifully As it should be Lasting for no longer than necessary Presumed to join the clouds But caught in the trees Where I can be offset Limiting the harm I could do Should I be breathed in I leave the track To rest above the track I'll deny my existence There is no miracle here I'm the spewed poison Like everybody else But right now all is restful In this small yet vast space I'm not looking out at all Just lost in myself Like the train smoke Choking on the wonder of it Obscuring my own vision I don't belong in the carriage Nor by the shore But maybe I'll go there anyway In case I'm wrong about that

You have an incredible mind DD...just a delight to follow the way you play with thoughts that come into being then disappear like smoke. You read so much into the painting and layer it with coatings of possible meaning....good one DD

Thank you Hilda, glad you liked it so much. Munch painting contain so much even when apparently straight forward. It would be easy to go back and write several other poems about the same painting and still find inspiration - thanks for your feedback x

Getting lost amongst the beautiful scenery and trying to find oneself all at once, seems to be the overwhelming picture you paint here, it’s like a (Where’s (Dilly) I haven’t got a clue, you could just about pop up anywhere in this one, your words certainly permeate the whole picture, brilliant introspective interpretation of Train Smoke by Munch, cheers David
