Town Visitor-Contest
These here trails are long and wide; I've
ridden them for years.
I gave up the outlaw ways some time ago
and faced my fears.
I'm a visitor in this town; folks are giving
me the evil eye,
Riding on my horse with a gun at my side I
feel danger’s nigh.
Though I haven't had to draw my gun in
a very long while,
I've never backed down from any fight
that ain't my style.
But I won't be here much longer; I'm
just passing through,
However, if someone challenges me
they'll be sad they drew.
In the corner of my eye, I see some-
one walking my way,
I don't want to wound a man today or
have him be prey.
I slowed down my horse and greeted
him with a nod,
He drew his gun and pulled his trigger
but missed, I was awed.
I jumped off my horse, grabbed my gun
and shot him dead,
He didn't have a chance to shoot back
he fell like lead.
Mounted my trusted friend and left that
ghost of a town,
It seemed odd that the onlookers were
no longer around.
I didn't want to relive my gun fighting
days but I'm no coward,
That day, I put my old life behind me
and it's happy trails onward.
*I haven't a clue if this is correct, but I decided to
give it a go.
