Touched My Heart
All my life I lived a loveless life
No one ever touched my heart,
Neither kith and kin nor my wife,
to give this static life a jump-start.
Sitting in my easy chair on the patio
I dreamt of a daring exotic adventure,
Searched far and wide, high and low
But found none to partner this venture.
So nursing a can of beer in my hand
And a bag of potato chips on my lap
I roamed alone in some fantasy land
Unaware, I was but walking into a trap.
To my surprise, on a hospital bed I awoke
Being readied for an open-heart operation,
It seems I was knocked out by a stroke
brought on by a sedentary life and tension.
My heart was pumping blood low
And beating at a snail’s pace,
My veins all clogged up and slow
An open-heart surgery I had to face.
So here I was hooked up to a machine
My chest bare and cut open apart
My beating heart held by Nurse Colleen—
Oh, lo! Someone finally touched my heart.
