Science Fiction Poetry Contest

written January 31st 2024.

She sighs, ”Touch my eyes again that I might see the light of new worlds flickering in the reaches of my mind. Are you some magical creature who has come to ravage my soul? When your glowing digit is placed in my ear, I understand strange new languages. One minute becomes one hundred years. Allow my tongue to explore happiness as I wrap my lips around your finger. I wish to feel every joyful moment I have ever known.” He or it, who has no eyes looks at her, but she is not afraid. She only has room for want. A need that pulsates in and outside of her body. He/ it, knows that she is far too fragile to be touched there. So mercifully he/ it touches her forehead. Falling falling bleep bloop into a dreamless sleep. Her memories of Him/it are erased! In her bed alone in the morning gloom. On her forehead a glowing fingerprint’s mark fades. Above her log cabin a whirring sound she does not hear. While she sleeps her strange sleep him/it will fly to new worlds searching for the one who will be the mother of ten thousand planets. When she awakes, she feels the world is somehow more muted. Her body feels foreign, separate from her. Her index finger brushes her lip and she has a strange feeling of Déjà Vu.

Dear Richard, your sci-fi poem is fantastic in its sensory and technological imagery and fascinating in the interaction between an alien and a woman. A thought-provoking piece. Your last two lines provide a grand finale to a great poem. Congratulations for your excellent trophy win. Warmest wishes my friend.. ~Susan

If success is making me more appalled and disgusted than ever with the latest technology, then you have succeeded mightily, Richard.

In this case it is alien technology. I do agree technology can be a dangerous thing in the wrong hands.

I like how your poem evokes vivid imagery and sensory experiences, drawing the reader into the intimate encounter between the two characters. The imagery of "the light of new worlds flickering" and the sensation of strange new languages when touched create a surreal atmosphere that heightens the sense of wonder and intrigue.
